Our prediction for this League 2 match:
Tuesday’s postponed fixture at Sixfields Stadium pits together Northampton and Walsall, the two teams who sit in the opposite halves of the table. The Cobblers aim to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to Rochdale, and a win over Walsall will see them stay in automatic promotion berth. Fit-again forward Louis Appere is pushing for a start, while Joshua Okpoda Eppiah should continue to lead the line for the hosts.
The Saddlers, on the other hand, have been showing signs of improvement of late, with the team winning three of their last four league fixtures. Walsall are on the right track to secure the League Two survival, and seeing that the promotion-chasing hosts want this win more than the visitors, we are tempted to put our money on Jon Brady’s men. Lee Tomlin could make his first start for Walsall after coming as a substitute in a 3-1 win over Hartlepool.
Highlighted Player (Joseph Mills):
Joseph Mills is an Aston Villa product who plays for Northampton Town in the League One. Mills moved to Southampton in 2006, and he continued playing for the Saints at senior level. After ending his loan spells with Scunthorpe United and Doncaster Rovers, the pacey left-back joined Reading in 2011, but he made no more than 15 appearances for the Royals in the league.
After his short spell with Burnley, Joseph Mills moved to Oldham Athletic, and it has to be noted that he played for the likes of Perth Glory, Shrewsbury Town, and Forest Green Rovers as well before moving to Northampton Town.
Mills was born in Swindon, England on October 30, 1989, and he wears the No. 23 shirt with the Cobblers. His primary position is left-back, but coaches use him as a left midfielder as well. He has a contract with Northampton Town which should expire in June 2022.
Highlighted Team (Walsall):
Founded in 1888, Walsall are a professional club that play home matches at Bescot Stadium. The capacity of the venue is 11,300 people and it was opened in 1990. Nicknamed the Saddlers, Walsall footballers wear red shirts and white shorts when playing in front of home fans, while black is the dominant colour of their away kit.
Walsall played out a goalless draw with Aston Villa on April 9, 1888 in their first ever game, with the team recording their biggest win on March 4, 1899 against Darwen (10-0). The Saddlers suffered their biggest defeat on December 17, 1892 as they were beaten by Small Heath 12-0.
Walsall fans consider wolverhampton wanderers the club’s biggest rivals, but the Saddlers have rivalries with Shrewsbury Town and Port Vale as well as the two clubs are only 30 miles away from Walsall. Crystal Palace centre-back Scott Dann is one of the most notable footballers who played for the Bescot Stadium.
