Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Sparkles will be flying when Olympique Marseille and Olympique Lyon lock horns in the Ligue 1 derby on Sunday evening. OM aim to recover from a 2-0 loss to Nice and they are likely to go all guns blazing at les Gones. Roberto De Zerbi is expected to make changes to the starting XI, with talented Morocco midfielder Bilal Nadir pushing for a start. Both Ruben Blanco and Faris Moumbagna remain in the recovery room, while former Sevilla midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia is a major doubt.
Lyon, on the other hand, were on the verge of beating Nantes in their last league match, but les Canaries eventually scored a late equalizer to spoil their party. As les Gones will go for a win in Sunday’s derby as well, we are tempted to put our money on both teams to score. There are no fresh injury worries in the away team.
Highlighted Player (Alexandre Lacazette):
Alexandre Lacazette is a hometown boy of Lyon, a powerful striker who went through the youth ranks of the French side to become one of the most important players for Les Gones. The 25-year-old forward was also a member of all France national team selections becoming a European champion at the age of 19 by scoring the winner in the final against Spain.
This goal gave him a reputation of a big game player, one he went on to uphold on various occasions at his club. Lacazette is a hard working forward an accomplished finisher of the ball able to score from different positions. The most prolific striker in his side and among the top ones in the Ligue 1, Alexandre Lacazette scored more than 20 league goals last two seasons on a trot.
Constantly linked with a move away from Lyon, Alexandre Lacazette refuses to speak about anything other than his football and is leaving all the talk to the football pitch.
Highlighted Team (Marseille):
Olympique de Marseille are considered one of the best French football clubs. Les Olympiens won their ninth Ligue 1 title in 2010, but winning of the 1992/1993 Champions League trophy is seen as the club’s biggest success. Marseille defeated Italian giants Milan in the title game, with Basile Boli scoring the winner (1-0) in the Olympiastadion showdown.
It has to be noted, though, that the Stade Velodrome outfit were banned from defending the title in the 1993/1994 season after being involved in a match-fixing scandal. To make things even worse for the fans, the club suffered enforced relegation to the Ligue 2. Olympique de Marseille participated in the Europa League final on two occasions (1998/1999, 2003/2004), but they were beaten by Parma and Valencia respectively in the title games. OM’s home ground Stade Velodrome was opened on June 13, 1997 and the capacity of the stadium is 67.394.
The likes of Franck Ribery, Didier Deschamps, Didier Drogba, Laurent Blanc, Fabien Barthez, Samir Nasri, Fabrizio Ravanelli and Djibril Cisse all played for Marseille in the past.
