Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
There will be fireworks when Olympique Marseille and PSG square off against each other at Stade Velodrome in the Ligue 1 derby. OM quickly bounced back from a 2-0 loss to Lille, with the team rolling over Lorient 4-1 at the weekend. Marseille aim to melt PSG’s advantage in the standings to seven points, but they will have a mountain to climb in Sunday’s showdown. Turkey international Under returns from suspension, while Harit remains on the sidelines with a groin problem.
Les Parisiens, on the other hand, came from behind to beat Angers despite the fact that both Leo Messi and Neymar missed the game. The Argentine superstar returns to the starting XI, while both Neymar and Mauro Icardi are rated doubtful for the game. Even though Leandro Paredes and Sergio Ramos remain in the recovery room, we are tempted to put our money on the visitors, who proved their worth in the Champions League clash with Leipzig.
Highlighted Player (Florian Thauvin):
Born in Orleans, France on January 26, 1993, Florian Thauvan is a pacey winger who plays for Olympique Marseille. After spending his youth career at Ingre, Saint-Jean-de-la-Ruelle, Orleans and Grenoble, Thauvin made his senior debut with Grenoble in 2011.
The French footballer played for the likes of Bastia and Olympique Marseille in his homeland as well before joining Newcastle United in 2015. Even though many people expected that he would shine in the Premier League, Florian Thauvin was playing below expectations with the Magpies and, as a result, he returned to Olympique Marseille in 2016. Thauvin spend the 2016/2017 season on loan at the Stade Velodrome outfit and the deal was made permanent in the summer of 2017.
Speaking of his international career, Florian Thauvin scored seven goals in ten appearances for France U21 team, while making his debut for the senior squad in a 5-0 win over Paraguay in June, 2017. Thauvin’s main position is right winger, but he is capable of playing as both left winger and attacking midfielder as well.
Highlighted Team (PSG):
Formed by the merger of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain in 1970, Paris Saint-Germain or as they call it PSG is the most successful club in French football with 31 domestic titles to their name. Having won six Ligue 1 title so far, a record ten Coupes de France, a record six Coupes de la Ligue, six Trophees des Champions and one Ligue 2 title, PSG are also one of only two French clubs to ever win a European title.
Les Parisiens were crowned UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup champions back in 1995-96, while their last European trophy was the 2001 UEFA Intertoto Cup. Beginning of the new millennium was particularly hard for the celebrated club who flirted with relegation in 2000s before they were bought by the Quatar Sports Investments group in 2011 when the rebirth of the Paris Saint-Germain as we know it today began.
Following heavy squad investments and team boosting, PSG won their first Ligue 1 title in 19 years with Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic almost singlehandedly leading his side towards the trophy with 30 goals. Having established domestic dominance, PSG now set their sights on winning the Champions League which remains an elusive dream for the club from Paris.
