Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Olympique Marseille will be aiming to climb to the Champions League berth when they welcome Troyes to their Stade Velodrome on Sunday evening. OM are eyeing their fourth home win of the season, but they will have to prove their worth on the field. Dmitri Payet should keep his place in the starting XI despite being hit by the bottle from the stands during the abandoned match against Lyon. Turkey international Cengiz Under is out of contention through injuries.
Troyes, on the other hand, head into the match following back-to-back defeats to Lens and St Etienne. The newcomers are eager to escape the danger zone, but given their poor form, we believe that punters from all four corners of the world can find value in betting on Marseille. All Mama Balde, Yasser Larouci, Philippe Sandler, Karim Azamoum, and Metinho should miss out with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Florian Thauvin):
Born in Orleans, France on January 26, 1993, Florian Thauvan is a pacey winger who plays for Olympique Marseille. After spending his youth career at Ingre, Saint-Jean-de-la-Ruelle, Orleans and Grenoble, Thauvin made his senior debut with Grenoble in 2011.
The French footballer played for the likes of Bastia and Olympique Marseille in his homeland as well before joining Newcastle United in 2015. Even though many people expected that he would shine in the Premier League, Florian Thauvin was playing below expectations with the Magpies and, as a result, he returned to Olympique Marseille in 2016. Thauvin spend the 2016/2017 season on loan at the Stade Velodrome outfit and the deal was made permanent in the summer of 2017.
Speaking of his international career, Florian Thauvin scored seven goals in ten appearances for France U21 team, while making his debut for the senior squad in a 5-0 win over Paraguay in June, 2017. Thauvin’s main position is right winger, but he is capable of playing as both left winger and attacking midfielder as well.
Highlighted Team (Troyes):
Founded in 1986, Troyes are considered one of the youngest clubs in French Ligue 1. Troyes returned to the top flight at the end of the 2016/2017 season, with the team finishing the regular season in third place in the Ligue 2 standings. Jean Louis Garcia’s men proved their worth in the promotion play-offs, with the team beating Lorient in the two-legged tie.
Troyes are well known for their blue shirts, but they wear white when playing on the travels. Stade de l’Aube is the club’s home ground and the stadium can hold up to 20.400 spectators. The venue was built in 1924, but it was renovated on two occasions (1956, 2004). The club have yet to win the Ligue 1 trophy, but in 1956 they made it to the French Cup final.
Troyes faced Sedan in the title game and they were totally outplayed by Louis Dugauguez’s troops (3-1) at Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir. Roger Courtois’ team were three goals down after 57 minutes, but five minutes later Fernand De Vlaeminck scored a consolation goal for the Stade de l’Aube outfit.
