Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Following a 2-1 win over Nice, Montpellier will look to give fans yet another reason to celebrate when they take on big-spending PSG at their Stade de la Mosson on Sunday evening. La Paillade are still sitting in the danger zone, only one point clear of the bottom three and, no doubt, they are desperate to grab something from Sunday’s showdown. Defender Modibo Sagnan returns from suspension, whilst midfielder Axel Gueguin remains on the sidelines with an ACL injury.
Les Parisiens, on the other hand, aim to return to winning ways after dropping two points in a 2-2 draw with Reims. As both Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele should be recalled to the starting XI, we predict that the league leaders are going to get back on course in the national championship following three consecutive draws. The likes of Presnel Kimpembe, Sergio Rico, Milan Skriniar, Layvin Kurzawa, Marco Asensio, and Marquinhos remain in PSG’s treatment room.
Highlighted Player (Kylian Mbappé):
Kylian Mbappe is a French footballer who plays for Paris Saint-Germain as a forward. The French rising star began his youth career at AS Bondy and in 2013 he moved to AS Monaco. After making 12 appearances for Monaco B, Kylian Mbappe made his debut for the senior team in 2015. Mbappe quickly established himself as a regular goalscorer, with the teenager finding the net 15 times in 29 appearances in the Ligue 1 in the 2016/2017 season.
In 2017 he moved to fellow French club PSG on loan, with the option of making the deal permanent. Kylian Mbappe scored 13 goals in 27 appearances for les Parisiens in the 2017/2018 and it has to be noted that Unai Emery’s troops eventually won the national championship.
Speaking of his international career, Mbappe played an important role for France at the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals, with the pacey rising star scoring a brace in a thrilling 4-3 win over Argentina in the last 16 of the showpiece tournament. The PSG attacker was born in Paris on December 20, 1998.
Highlighted Team (Montpellier):
Over the years Montpellier have established themselves as a mid-table side in French Ligue 1. Montpellier are considered one of the youngest clubs in France as they were founded in 1974, but it has to be noted that a number of high-profile footballers played for the club in the past. French football legend Laurent Blanc played for Montpellier from 1981-1993 and he scored 76 goals in 24 appearances in the league for the club. Eric Cantona, Roger Milla, Carlos Valderama and Olivier Giroud played in Montpellier’s colors as well, but Pascal Baills is the player with most appearances for the club (429).
La Paillade did remarkably well to win the Ligue 1 trophy in 2012 and that is considered the club’s biggest success. Montpellier won Coupe de France on two occasions (1929, 1990), with the team beating FC Sete and FC Paris respectively in the title games. The team welcome their rivals at Stade de la Mosson and the capacity of the stadium is 32.900. In 1999 Montpellier won the UEFA Intertoto Cup.
