Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Sunday’s football game at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard pits together St Etienne and PSG, the two teams with entirely different ambitions in the 2021/2022 Ligue 1 season. Les Verts are sitting in the relegation zone despite recording back-to-back wins over Clermont and Troyes, and, no doubt, the team’s main goal is to secure the elite division survival. Midfielder Mahdi Camara is back from suspension, whilst the likes of Saidou Sow, Gabriel Silva, Yvan Neyou, and Harold Moukoudi are out of contention with injuries.
Les Parisiens, on the other hand, are eager to regain top position in the standings. Mauro Pochettino’s troops are eyeing their fourth consecutive league win, and seeing that both teams will go for a win in Sunday’s showdown, we believe that there is a big value in betting on over 2.5 goals. Goalkeeper Keylor Navas is banned for the match, with Alexandre Letellier, Julian Draxler, and Rafinha missing out with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Ryad Boudebouz):
Despite being born in Colmar, France on February 19, 1990 Ryad Boudebouz represents Algeria on the international stage. The Montpellier midfielder played for both France U17 and France U19 teams in the past, but he made his senior debut with Algeria on May 28, 2010 in a friendly against Republic of Ireland.
Speaking of his club career, Boudebouz played for Colmar and Sochaux at youth level and he continued playing for Sochaux first team. After scoring 24 goals in 164 appearances in the league for the club, he moved to Bastia in 2013 and he played 66 games for les Bleus.
Ryad Boudebouz played for the Corsican side from 2013 to 2015 and he signed a four-year deal with Montpellier and you should know that he netted 11 goals in 33 appearances for la Paillade in the 2016/2017 Ligue 1 campaign. His main position is attacking midfield, but he is capable of playing at both left and right winger as well.
Highlighted Team (PSG):
Formed by the merger of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain in 1970, Paris Saint-Germain or as they call it PSG is the most successful club in French football with 31 domestic titles to their name. Having won six Ligue 1 title so far, a record ten Coupes de France, a record six Coupes de la Ligue, six Trophees des Champions and one Ligue 2 title, PSG are also one of only two French clubs to ever win a European title.
Les Parisiens were crowned UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup champions back in 1995-96, while their last European trophy was the 2001 UEFA Intertoto Cup. Beginning of the new millennium was particularly hard for the celebrated club who flirted with relegation in 2000s before they were bought by the Quatar Sports Investments group in 2011 when the rebirth of the Paris Saint-Germain as we know it today began.
Following heavy squad investments and team boosting, PSG won their first Ligue 1 title in 19 years with Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic almost singlehandedly leading his side towards the trophy with 30 goals. Having established domestic dominance, PSG now set their sights on winning the Champions League which remains an elusive dream for the club from Paris.
