Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
All eyes will be on Stade de la Meinau when Strasbourg and Lille go head to head in the Ligue 1 round 8. Le Racing have been having their ups and downs in the first half of the season, but back-to-back wins over Metz and Lens are surely giving fans a reason for optimism ahead of the visit of Lille. All Dion, Mothiba, and Bellegarde are sidelined with injuries, but there are no suspended players in the home team ahead of the visit of Lille.
Les Dogues, on the other hand, desperately needed a win against Reims, and they managed to get one. The reigning champions aim to rejoin the title race, and given their attacking potential with the like of Yilmaz and David up front, over 2.5 goals betting option should be considered. Midfielder Xeka is back from suspension, while both Jonathan Bamba and Renato Sanches are out of contention with injuries.
Highlighted Player (Adrien Thomasson):
A midfielder with a keen eye for a precise pass, Adrian Thomasson is a French international who plays for Ligue 1 side Strasbourg. Thomasson is a versatile asset who can be equally deployed in a number of different positions up front, including a holding position at the centre of the park.
He began his professional career at Evian in 2012 and spent three years with Les Roses before moving to Nantes in 2015. One league match shy from entering the 100-game club, Adrien Thomasson scored nine goals for the Canaries before joining Strasbourg in the summer of 2018.
As a player who likes to hold on to the ball and build play from behind, Thomasson boasts impressive passing ability. Albeit an attacking midfielder who can play on both wings and in advanced midfield position, this French footballer also makes quite a contribution in defense.
Highlighted Team (Lille):
Lille have been playing an important role in French football ever since they were founded in 1944. Les Dogues won their first domestic trophy in the 1945/1946 season.
Lille did well to win their second Ligue 1 title in 1954 and 57 years later they lifted their last domestic title. Les Douges finished the 2010/2011 season in top position in the standings, eight points clear of second-placed Olympique Marseille and it has to be noted that Lille attacker Moussa Sow won the Golden Boot (25 goals).
Lille are one of the two teams that managed to win three consecutive Coupe de France trophies (1946, 1947, 1948), but they have yet to clinch the Coupe de la Ligue title. Les Dogues faced PSG in the 2015/2016 Coupe de la Ligue trophy, but les Parisiens proved to be a big catch for Frederic Antonetti’s team in the title game.
Lille play their home matches at Stade Pierre-Mauroy and the capacity of the stadium is 50.186. The venue was opened in August, 2017 and the construction cost €282 million.
