Our prediction for this Ligue 1 match:
Strasbourg and Lille square off against each other at Stade de la Meinau on day 11 of the new Ligue 1 campaign. Le Racing desperately needed a win against Angers, and they managed to get one (3-2), with Kevin Gameiro putting an end to his seven-game goalless run. Strasbourg aim to keep on climbing the standings, but they face a difficult task against les Dogues. Defender Gerzino Nyamsi is back from suspension, while all Nordine Kandil, Lebo Mothiba, and Ludovic Ajorque are out of contention through injuries.
Lille, on the other hand, quickly bounced back from an unlucky defeat to Lorient, with the team beating Lens thanks to Jonathan David’s goal. The Canada forward will be the man to watch in the away side, while both Bafode Diakite and Angel Gomes are banned for the match. Anyhow, a close encounter is on the cards at Stade de la Meinau as Le Racing have showed signs of improvement at the weekend.
Highlighted Player (Alexander Djiku):
Alexander Djiku is yet another product of Bastia youth school. Djiku’s main position is centre-back, but he is used as a right-back as well. The 182-cm tall footballer of Senegalese descent made his senior debut with Bastia in December 2013 in a Coupe de la Ligue game against Evian.
After scoring one goal in 45 appearances for les Bleus in the league, Djiku joined Ligue 1 side Caen on July 11, 2017, signing a four-year contract with the Stade Michel D’Ornano outfit. The French defender has a contract with Caen, which should expire on June 30, 2022.
Djiku is well known for his reckless tackles and it is important to note that he was shown 10 yellow cards in 28 appearances for Caen in the 2017/2018 Ligue 1 campaign. Alexander Djiku wears No. 24 jersey when playing for Caen, but he has yet to make his debut with the French national team.
Highlighted Team (Lille):
Lille have been playing an important role in French football ever since they were founded in 1944. Les Dogues won their first domestic trophy in the 1945/1946 season.
Lille did well to win their second Ligue 1 title in 1954 and 57 years later they lifted their last domestic title. Les Douges finished the 2010/2011 season in top position in the standings, eight points clear of second-placed Olympique Marseille and it has to be noted that Lille attacker Moussa Sow won the Golden Boot (25 goals).
Lille are one of the two teams that managed to win three consecutive Coupe de France trophies (1946, 1947, 1948), but they have yet to clinch the Coupe de la Ligue title. Les Dogues faced PSG in the 2015/2016 Coupe de la Ligue trophy, but les Parisiens proved to be a big catch for Frederic Antonetti’s team in the title game.
Lille play their home matches at Stade Pierre-Mauroy and the capacity of the stadium is 50.186. The venue was opened in August, 2017 and the construction cost €282 million.
