Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Euroborg will host Sunday’s football game between Groningen and Ajax, the two teams who sit in the opposite halves of the table. Groningen failed to secure the Eredivisie survival, meaning that they are low on confidence ahead of Matchday 32. Laros Duarte is back from suspension, while Jetro Willems remains on the sidelines with injury. Defender Thijmen Blokziji is a major doubt.
The Amsterdammers, on the other hand, are having a season to forget, with the team likely to miss out on a spot in the Champions League. Ajax failed to impress in a goalless draw with AZ Alkmaar, but they will not have a better chance than this to get back on course. Considering that David faces Goliath at Euroborg, anything but a routine away win would be a major surprise. Steven Berghuis is out of contention with heart problems, while wing-back Owen Wijndal is pushing for a start.
Highlighted Player (Steven Bergwijn):
Steven Bergwin is a product of ASC Waterwijk football school, but in 2009 he was spotted by Ajax scouts. In 2011 he moved to PSG and he continued playing for the club’s reserve team at senior level. He made his debut with the senior team on May 20, 2015 in a 2-0 win over Heracles.
Over the years the Dutch footballer born in Amsterdam on October 8, 1997, has established himself as a first-team regular at PSV, earning a call-up for the national team as well. Steven Bergwijn made his Netherlands debut on October 12, 2018 in a 3-0 win over Germany. His main position is left winger, but he is used as both right winger and centre-forward as well.
His preferred foot is right and it has to be noted that his parents are of Suriname descent, he has a dual citizenship. Bergwijn scored 14 goals in 33 appearances for PSV in the 2018/2019 Eredivisie season.
Highlighted Team (Groningen):
Groningen is a Dutch football clubs that competes in the Eredivisie. Founded on June 16, 1971, Groningen play home games at Euroborg. The venue was built by Ballas Nedam, Royal BAM Group and VolkerWessels, and it can hold up to 22,525 people.
The Trots van het Noorden (Pride of the North) are well known for their white home shirts with red stripes, while purple is the dominant colour of their away kit. Volendam are considered the club’s fiercest rivals, but they have a rivalry with Twente as well after the 1980s incidents between their fans. Groningen have yet to win the Eredivisie trophy, but they did well to go all the way in the Dutch Cup in the 2014/15 season.
The green and whites defeated Zwolle 2-0 in the title game. Speaking of their European success, it has to be noted that Groningen participated in the Europa League on two occasions. In the 2015/16 season the Trots van het Noorden booked their place in the group stages of the competition, but they failed to record a win in the process.
