Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
After suffering a heavy 3-0 loss to NEC on Matchday 11, Groningen will look to get back on course when they welcome RKC Waalwijk to their Euroborg. The Green and White Army defeated AZ Alkmaar 2-0 in their last home game, which is surely giving fans a reason for optimism ahead of Sunday’s clash, but the hosts will have to prove their worth on the field. All Bart van Hintum, Mike Te Wierik, and Radinio Balker have been struggling with injuries of late.
RKC, on the other hand, aim to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to Cambuur. The Yellow-Blues are tough to beat at home, but given their anything but good away record in the Dutch top flight, we believe that there is a big value in betting on Groningen. RKC defender Dario Van den Buijs, who limped off with injury at the weekend, is unlikely to feature in Sunday’s game.
Highlighted Player (Sergio Padt):
Sergio Padt is a Dutch footballer who plays for Eredivisie club Groningen as a goalkeeper. Padt played for the likes of Pancratius, Hoofddorp, and Ajax during his youth career, but he did not see any game action with the Amsterdammers at senior level.
Following short loan spells with the likes of Haarlem and Go Ahead Eagles, Sergio Padt signed a deal with Belgian outfit Gent in June, 2011. After making 55 appearances for the club in the Belgian top flight, the Dutch shot-stopper joined Groningen in the summer of 2014. Sergio Padt did remarkably well to win the KNVB Cup with the Green-White Army in the 2014/15 season, with the team beating PEC Zwolle in the title game.
The Groningen goalkeeper, who was born on June 6, 1990, has five caps for the Netherlands U-21 team. Speaking of his senior career, he received two call-ups for the national team, but has yet to make his debut.
Highlighted Team (Waalwijk):
RKC Waalwijk is a Dutch club that competes in the Eredivisie. RKC returned to the Dutch top flight in the 2019/20 season, and they were more than fortunate not to suffer relegation back to Eerste Divisie. Fred Grim’s men were stuck at the bottom of the table when the season was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As a result, they did not drop to the Dutch second tier. RKC play home games at Mandemakers Stadion, the venue which can hold only 7,500 spectators. RKC Waalwijk are well known for their yellow shirts with blue strips, but their away kit is mainly black. The Mandemakers Stadion outfit have never won the national championship.
RKC, though, represented the Netherlands in European competitions in the past, with team taking part in Intertoto Cup on four occasions. Willem II are seen as one of the club’s main rivals, with the two teams facing each other in the Brabantse derby.
