Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
All eyes will be on Philips Stadion when PSV and Ajax face each other in the Eredivisie derby on Matchday 20. PSV are the surprising league leaders ahead of De Klassieker, and, no doubt, they would be happy with one point from Sunday’s showdown. Roger Schmidt’s troops are on a five-game winning run in the national championship, but they should rely on their rock-solid defence in the Eredivisie derby. Important midfielder Ibrahim Sangare is on international duty with Ivory Coast, while all Noni Madueke, Eran Zahavi, and Ryan Thomas are facing race against clock to be fit for the derby.
The Amsterdammers, on the other hand, faced no difficulties in a 3-0 win over Utrecht. Considering that Ajax have conceded no more than four goals in the Dutch top flight this term, we are tempted to put our money on under 2.5 goals. Brian Brobbey, who returned to the club earlier in January, should keep his place in the starting XI, while both Sebastien Haller and Andre Onana are on Africa Cup of Nations.
Highlighted Player (Mario Gotze):
Mario Gotze is a German midfielder, who played for Ronsberg and Eintrach Hombruch during his youth career before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2001. He made a great progress during his spell at the Borussia Dortmund’s youth academy and on 21 November, 2009 he made his Bundesliga debut for the Millionaires.
Gotze scored 22 goals in 83 league appearances for the club between 2009 and 2013 and he joined Borussia Dortmund’s bitterest rivals Bayern Munich on April, 2013. The German midfielder, who is capable of playing as a striker as well, failed to impress in the 2015/2016 Bundesliga campaign, but it has to be noted that he was struggling with injury at the start of the season.
Gotze won three Bundesliga trophies with Bayern Munich, but at the end of the 2015/2016 season he returned to Borussia Dortmund. In 2014 he represented Germany at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil and he scored the winner in the final against Argentina. Mario Gotze was born in Memmingen on 3 June, 1992.
Highlighted Team (Ajax):
Ajax is a Dutch football club that was founded on 18 March, 1900. Ajax are well known for their youth academy, which regarded as one of the best youth football schools in the world. The likes of Johan Cruijff, Edwin van der Sar, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Kluivert, Rafael van der Vaart and Marco van Basten are all products of Ajax’s football academy. The Amsterdammers share a big rivalry with Feyenoord and there have always been fireworks when the two teams face each other in De Klassieker.
During the seventies Feyenoord and Ajax were the only two teams who were capable of winning the domestic trophies, while PSV have been playing an important role in Dutch football in the 21st century. PSV and Ajax are regarded as big rivals as well and the two teams square off against each other in De Topper. Ajax play their home games at Amsterdam ArenA, the stadium that was opened on 14 August, 1996. The Amsterdammers won their fourth European Cup (Champions League) trophy in 1995, beating Milan in the title game in Vienna.
