Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Sparta Stadion Het Kasteel will host Saturday’s football game between Sparta Rotterdam and VVV-Venlo. De Kasteelheren are eyeing their third consecutive win at home ground, but the game against the relegation strugglers will be anything but a walk in the park for the hosts. Both Coremans and Vriends have been struggling with injuries of late, and the duo is unlikely to feature against Venlo.
The visitors, on the other hand, are on a ten-game losing run in the national championship. The relegation strugglers are desperate to grab something from Saturday’s clash, and seeing that both sides are likely to go for a win, we are tempted to put our money on both teams to score. Both Donis and Shabani are likely to miss the game with injuries, but there are no suspended players in the away team ahead of the trip to Rotterdam.
Highlighted Player (Bryan Smeets):
Bryan Smeets is a product of MVV Maastricht football academy who plays for Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie. Smeets scored 23 goals in 144 league appearances for MVV before joining De Graafschap in 2015.
After his spell with the Superboeren, the midfielder moved to Cambuur in the 2017/18 season. The following season he joined Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv where he scored 12 goals in 37 appearances in the elite division. Bryan Smeets then decided to return to Netherlands as he joined Sparta Rotterdam in the 2019/20 season. He scored his first goal with De Kasteelheren in a 4-0 win over RKS Waalwijk on September 21, 2019.
His main position is attacking midfielder, but he is used as both central midfielder and right winger as well. Bryan Smeets has a contract with Sparta Rotterdam which should expire on June 30, 2021. He is a two-footed player.
Highlighted Team (Venlo):
Based on the Dutch-German border, VVV-Venlo is a Dutch football club that plays in the Eredivisie. The club was founded on February 7, 1903 under the name of Venlose Voetbal Vereniging, and it’s considered one of the oldest clubs in Dutch football.
VVV Venlo are well known for their yellow shirts and black shorts, and, as a result, they are often called the Yellow Black Army. Venlo play home games at De Koel, the stadium which is able to hold up to 8,000 spectators.
Japan international Keisuke Honda is one of the most notable international footballers who played for the club. However, Honda is not the only Japanese player to wear the yellow jersey as the likes of Maya Yoshida, Robert Cullen, and Yuki Otsu played for the club as well. Roda JC are seen as one of the club’s main rivals, with the two clubs facing each other in the Limburgse derby.
