Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
All eyes will be on GelreDome when Vitesse and Feyenoord square off against each other in the opening match of the season. Vitesse were anything but impressive in pre-season, with the team losing to all Oostende, OFI Crete, and Atromitos, and it is no wonder the bookies see them as underdogs in Sunday’s clash. Since key attacker Lois Openda is no longer part of the team, we do not believe that there is a big value in betting on the home side.
The likes of Luis Sinisterra, Tyrell Malacia, and Bryan Linssen are no longer parts of Feyenoord, but the club chiefs did well to sign Quinten Timber, Javairo Dilrosun, Santiago Gimenez, and Sebastian Szymanski earlier in the summer. Anyhow, the Rotterdammers are more of a team than the Vitas, and we predict that the visitors will pick up all three points from the season opener.
Highlighted Player (Riechedly Bazoer):
Despite playing for PSV during his youth career, Riechedly Bazoer made his Eredivisie debut with Ajax. The central midfielder who was born on 12 October, 1996 in Utrecht, scored his first goal for Ajax on 15 February, 2015 in a 4-2 victory over Twente.
Four days later he made his European debut with the Amsterdammers, taking part in a 1-0 win over Legia in the Europa League. Bazoer scored five goals in 29 league appearances for Ajax in the 2015/2016 season, but he failed to win the domestic trophy with Frank de Boer’s troops.
Speaking of his international career, Bazoer has two caps for Netherlands U21 team and he made his debut for the first team on 13 November, 2015 against Wales. It has to be noted that he came as a late substitute in the 3-2 victory over the Dragons. Back in 2012 the right-footed midfielder won the UEFA U17 European Championship with the Dutch national team.
Highlighted Team (Feyenoord):
Back in 1908 football club Wilhemina was founded in the pub De Vereeniging and they played their home games in blue-sleeved red shirts and white shorts. The club’s name was changed to Hillesluise in 1909 and soon they became RVV Celeritas.
Finally, in 1912 the club got a name SC Feijenoord. Feyenoord won their first Eredivisie trophy in 1924 and 75 years later they clinched their 14th domestic trophy, finishing the season 15 points clear of second-placed Willem II. De Trots van Zuid play their home games at De Kuip and the capacity of the venue is 51 117.
The club’s fiercest rivals are Ajax and the two teams face each other in der Klassieker. The likes of Craig Bellamy, Gerrard Fox, Wouter Bos and Raemon Sluiter are notable supporters of the club. It is well known that football legends Johan Cruyff, Ruud Gullit and Peter Houtman all played for Feyenoord in the past. De Trots van Zuid play their home games in red-white shirts and black shorts.
