Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Buoyed by a thrilling 5-0 win over Twente, Ajax will look to retain top position in the Eredivisie table when they take on Willem II on Matchday 23. The league leaders are eyeing their seventh consecutive league win, but they will have to prove their worth. Sebastien Haller has been scoring goals for fun ever since he returned from international duty, and we predict that the Ivory Coast attacker is going to prove a handful for the opposition back-line.
Brian Brobbey and Maarten Stekelenburg should be the only absentees in the away team. The Tricolores, on the other hand, suffered a 1-0 loss to Sparta at the weekend, with the team remaining in the danger zone. Willem II face an uphill task in Saturday’s clash, and we do not believe that they are capable of shocking the title holders. Fred Grim can count on key players for the Ajax showdown.
Highlighted Player (Robbin Ruiter):
Robbin Ruiter is a Dutch professional goalkeeper who plays for Eredivisie club Willem II. Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands on March 25, 1987, the 196-cm-tall shot-stopper is a product of RKAV Volendam youth team.
Speaking of his senior career, Ruiter began playing for FC Volendam. After making 70 league appearances for the Het Andere Oranje, the goalkeeper joined Utrecht in 2012 where he quickly established himself as a first-team regular. After short spells with Sunderland and PSV, Robbin Ruiter signed a two-year contract with Willem II in the summer of 2020. It has to be noted that he did well to make it to the EFL Trophy final with Sunderland in the 2018/19 season.
The Black Cats suffered a loss to Portsmouth in the decider, with the Pompey winning the trophy after penalty shoot-out. Robin Ruitter has yet to make his debut with the Netherlands national football team.
Highlighted Team (Ajax):
Ajax is a Dutch football club that was founded on 18 March, 1900. Ajax are well known for their youth academy, which regarded as one of the best youth football schools in the world. The likes of Johan Cruijff, Edwin van der Sar, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Kluivert, Rafael van der Vaart and Marco van Basten are all products of Ajax’s football academy. The Amsterdammers share a big rivalry with Feyenoord and there have always been fireworks when the two teams face each other in De Klassieker.
During the seventies Feyenoord and Ajax were the only two teams who were capable of winning the domestic trophies, while PSV have been playing an important role in Dutch football in the 21st century. PSV and Ajax are regarded as big rivals as well and the two teams square off against each other in De Topper. Ajax play their home games at Amsterdam ArenA, the stadium that was opened on 14 August, 1996. The Amsterdammers won their fourth European Cup (Champions League) trophy in 1995, beating Milan in the title game in Vienna.
