Our prediction for this Netherlands Eredivisie match:
Willem II will be looking to make amends for back-to-back losses to Feyenoord and Utrecht when they take on Den Haag in a postponed Eredivisie fixture. The Tricolores have been struggling at the back of late, with the team conceding 11 goals in total in the previous two league fixtures, and it is no wonder they are seen as underdogs in Wednesday’s clash. All Heerkens, Nelom, Ruiter, and Saddiki are all likely to miss the game with injuries.
Den Haag, on the other hand, aim to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Fortuna Sittard. The Yellow-Greens are desperate to keep their survival hopes alive, and it seems as if they will not have a better chance than this to return to winning ways. Both Bijen and Janmaat are sidelined through injuries, but there are no suspended players in the away team ahead of the midweek clash.
Highlighted Player (Robbin Ruiter):
Robbin Ruiter is a Dutch professional goalkeeper who plays for Eredivisie club Willem II. Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands on March 25, 1987, the 196-cm-tall shot-stopper is a product of RKAV Volendam youth team.
Speaking of his senior career, Ruiter began playing for FC Volendam. After making 70 league appearances for the Het Andere Oranje, the goalkeeper joined Utrecht in 2012 where he quickly established himself as a first-team regular. After short spells with Sunderland and PSV, Robbin Ruiter signed a two-year contract with Willem II in the summer of 2020. It has to be noted that he did well to make it to the EFL Trophy final with Sunderland in the 2018/19 season.
The Black Cats suffered a loss to Portsmouth in the decider, with the Pompey winning the trophy after penalty shoot-out. Robin Ruitter has yet to make his debut with the Netherlands national football team.
Highlighted Team (Den Haag):
Ado Den Haag is a professional Dutch club based in Hague, the seat of the Netherlands government. De Ooievaars (The Storks) welcome their rivals at Cars Jeans Stadion, which can hold up to 15,000 spectators. Founded back in February, 1905, Den Haag are well known for their yellow shirts with green stripes, while their away kit is mainly sky blue.
De Ooievaars were the dominant force in the Netherlands Football League Championship during the World War II, with the team winning two domestic trophies (1941/42, and 1942/43). Den Haag have two KNVB Cup titles as well as they won the Dutch Cup in both 1967/68 and 1974/75 seasons. Legendary Netherlands tactician Dick Advocaat played for Den Haag on two occasions.
He scored seven goals in 147 league appearances from 1966 to 1973, and he returned to the club in 1979. Ajax and Feyenoord are considered the club’s biggest rivals. The rivalry between the clubs has become big due to hooligan fights before and after matches.
