Our prediction for this World Cup 2026 match:
National Arena Toshe Proeski will host Thursday’s World Cup qualifier between North Macedonia and Armenia, the two teams who are eyeing automatic qualification for the 2022 World Cup finals. The Macedonians aim to build on back-to-back wins over Liechtenstein and Germany, and we are positive that they will adopt an attack-minded approach in the midweek clash.
Even though North Macedonia were anything but impressive at the EURO 2020 finals, home win should be considered as players are eager impress on Blagoja Milevski’s debut as the new national team boss. Veteran Goran Pandev is no longer part of the team as he has retired from international duty. Roma ace Henrikh Mkhitaryan, on the other hand, returns to contention, but seeing that North Macedonia are a real force to be reckoned with at home, we predict that the visitors will return to Yerevan empty-handed.
Highlighted Player (Aleksandar Trajkovski):
Aleksandar Trajkovski is a Macedonian international who played for Cementarnica 55 during his youth career. He made 11 league appearances for the club at senior level as well and in 2010 he moved to Croatian team Inter Zapresic.
The attacking midfielder failed to prove his worth in the 2010/2011 season and, as a result, he was sold to Zulte Waregem in the summer of 2011. He played an important role in the Belgian team from 2011 to 2015 as he scored 11 goals in 83 league appearances for the club. It has to be noted, though, that Trajkovski spend the 2013/2014 season on loan at Mechelen. In 2015 he was named Macedonian Footballer of the Year and the same year he signed a contract with Italian side Palermo.
Speaking of his international career, Aleksandar Trajkovski has 15 caps for Macedonia U21 and he made his debut for the senior team on 10 August, 2011 in a friendly against Azerbaijan.
Highlighted Team (Armenia):
Armenia footballers played for Soviet Union national football team until 1991, when the country declared independence. The Football Federation of Armenia was founded the following year and they quickly established relations with both FIFA (1992) and UEFA (1993).
Despite the fact that Manchester United ace Henrikh Mkhitaryan plays for the Armenia national football team, the Havakakan have yet to qualify for the finals of a major tournament. Mkhitaryan is undisputedly the team’s most famous footballer, but we should mention former Ajax striker Edgar Manucharyan as well, who is in the twighlight of his career. Armenia played their first international game against Moldova in October, 1992 and it has to be noted that they played out a goalless draw with the former Soviet republic.
The Armenians have slim chances of qualifying for the FIFA World cup 2018 finals, but they did well to beat Montenegro in the process. Armenia footballers wear red shirts and red shorts when playing at home ground (Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium), while the colour of their away kits is white.
