Our prediction for this Portugal Primeira Liga match:
After suffering back-to-back losses to Porto, Benfica will look to kick off 2022 in style when they host Ferreira to their Estadio da Luz on Matchday 17. The Eagles are on a three-game winning run at home in all competitions, and the bookies see them as hot favourites to win Sunday’s clash. Captain Andre Almeida serves a one-game ban, while fellow defender Nicolas Otamendi is back from suspension. Key attacker Darwin Nunez faces race against clock to be fit for the match.
Ferreira, on the other hand, aim to build on back-to-back wins over Tondela and Santa Clara. Os Castores, though, have always been struggling at Estadio da Luz, and given their ten-game losing run to Benfica at the venue, home win should be considered. Defender Vitorino Antunes is back from suspension, but he is unlikely to prevent Benfica attackers from scoring in Sunday’s Primeira Liga game.
Highlighted Player (Haris Seferovic):
Haris Seferovic is a Swiss international who plays for Primeira Liga club Benfica as a forward. Born in Sursee, Switzerland, on February 22, 1992, Seferovic began his youth career at his hometown club Sursee. In 2004 he moved to Luzern, and he continued his football development at Grasshoppers from 2007 to 2009.
The 189-cm-tall attacker, whose preferred foot is left, made three appearances for the Grasshopper senior team before joining Fiorentina in 2010. Haris Seferovic played for the likes of Xamax, Lecce, and Novara on loan as well before signing a deal with Real Sociedad in the 2013/2014 season.
In the summer of 2014, the Swiss international moved to Eintracht Frankfurt, where he scored 16 goals in 86 appearances in the German top flight. Seferovic, who plays for Benfica nowadays, did well to win the Primeira Liga trophy with the Eagles in the 2018/2019 season. His main position is centre-forward, but he is used as a left winger as well.
Highlighted Team (Ferreira):
Founded on April 5, 1950, Pacos de Ferreira are a Portuguese football club who play their home games at Estadio da Mata Real. The venue can hold up to 9,077 people and it was opened in October 7, 1973. Os Castores are well known for their yellow shirts and green shorts, with the team wearing white and black kit when playing on the travels.
Pacos de Ferreira have yet to win the Primeira Liga trophy, but they did well to make it to the Taca de Portugal final in the 2008/2009 season. Os Castores faced Porto in the title game, with the Dragons attacker Lisandro Lopez scoring the only game of the match.
Two seasons later Pacos de Ferreira faced Benfica in the Taca da Liga final, with the Eagles lifting the trophy. Wolverhampton forward Diogo Jota is one of notable footballers who started their senior careers at Pacos de Ferreira.
