Our prediction for this Portugal Primeira Liga match:
After dropping two points in a 2-2 draw with Boavista, Benfica will be aiming to return to winning ways in Primeira Liga when they face Guimaraes on Sunday. The Eagles have slim chances of winning the national championship, and their main goal is to secure a top-two finish. Benfica are eyeing their 8th home win of the process, and they are likely to adopt an attack-minded approach against Guimaraes.
All Lucas Verissimo, Rodrigo Pinho, and Haris Seferovic miss out with injuries. Os Vimaranenses suffered a dip in form, and seeing that they failed to impress in back-to-back losses to Belenenses and Arouca, we are tempted to put our money on the hosts. The good news for the visitors is that midfielder Tomas Handel is back from suspension. In the first half of the season Benfica defeated Vitoria Guimaraes 3-1 at Estadio D. Afonso Henriques.
Highlighted Player (Haris Seferovic):
Haris Seferovic is a Swiss international who plays for Primeira Liga club Benfica as a forward. Born in Sursee, Switzerland, on February 22, 1992, Seferovic began his youth career at his hometown club Sursee. In 2004 he moved to Luzern, and he continued his football development at Grasshoppers from 2007 to 2009.
The 189-cm-tall attacker, whose preferred foot is left, made three appearances for the Grasshopper senior team before joining Fiorentina in 2010. Haris Seferovic played for the likes of Xamax, Lecce, and Novara on loan as well before signing a deal with Real Sociedad in the 2013/2014 season.
In the summer of 2014, the Swiss international moved to Eintracht Frankfurt, where he scored 16 goals in 86 appearances in the German top flight. Seferovic, who plays for Benfica nowadays, did well to win the Primeira Liga trophy with the Eagles in the 2018/2019 season. His main position is centre-forward, but he is used as a left winger as well.
Highlighted Team (Guimaraes):
Vitoria Guimaraes have always been in the shadow of famous Portuguese sides Porto, Benfica and Sporting, but over the years they have established themselves as a top-table side in the Primeira Liga. Os Vimaranenses did well to win Taca de Portugal in the 2012/2013 season, wi the team beating Benfica in the final of the domestic cup.
Vitoria Guimaraes finished the 2016/2017 Primeira Liga campaign in fourth place in the standings and, as a result, they booked their place in the Europa League qualifiers. The Portuguese side will face the likes of Salzburg, Konyaspor and Olympic Marseille in Group I and they are seen as underdogs in their group. Vitoria Guimaraes welcome their rivals at Estadio D. Alfonso Henriques and the venue can hold up to 30.000 spectators.
Os Vimaranenses play their home games in white shirts and white shorts, whilst they wear black when playing on the road. Their neighbours Braga are considered Guimaraes’ fiercest rivals and the two teams face each other in the derby of Minho Province.
