Our prediction for this Premier League match:
West Ham will look to continue where they left last season when they take on Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Sunday. The Hammers impressed in pre-season, with the team beating all Reading, Celtic, Brentford, and Atalanta, and it is no wonder the bookie see them as favourites to win the season opener. Considering that the club chiefs did well to keep hold of key players in the summer transfer window, away win should be considered.
Jesse Lingard, though, who impressed in the 2020/21 season, returned to Man Utd. The Magpies, on the other hand, are widely expected to fight for the survival in the new Premier League season. Even though Newcastle are tough to beat at home, we are tempted to put our money on the Hammers, who have been impressive ever since David Moyes took over the reins.
Highlighted Player (DeAndre Yedlin):
DeAndre Yedlin is a versatile 22-year-old young American footballer who is currently on loan at Sunderland from English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. His primary position is as a right-back but Yedlin can also play as a wingback or a wide midfielder. He is known for his speed on the wings and getting great crosses on the flanks.
Yedlin was part of Washington Youth Soccer’s State Olympic Development Program from 2006-09 before joining the Seattle Sounders FC youth academy in 2010. He played college soccer at the University of Akron starting in 20 games for the Zips.
Yedlin soon made his mark with Seattle Sounders and earned the record of becoming the first rookie to be named to the MLS team of the Week on his professional debut and the second rookie to make it to the All-star team. He earned his senior team debut in 2014 and has 33 caps to his name.
Highlighted Team (West Ham):
West Ham United are an English football club based in East London. The club was founded in 1895 and it has to be noted that the club’s name was Thames Ironworks back then. The Hammers were playing their home games at Upton Park from 1904 until 2016, when they moved to the Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
West Ham have won three FA Cup trophies (1964, 1975 and 1980) and they were runners-up in 1923 and 2006. The capital club finished the 1985/1986 England first division campaign in third place in the standings and that is the club’s highest placing in the top flight. West Ham United have strong rivalries with fellow London clubs, but Tottenham Hotspur are considered the club’s main rivals.
A number of top-class players were part of West Ham in the past and the likes of Joe Cole, Carlos Tevez, Paolo Di Canio, Paul Ince, Julian Dicks, Shaka Hislop, Michael Carrick and Slaven Bilic are some of them.
