Our prediction for this Premier League match:
Tottenham kick off the new Premier League campaign with a home game against Southampton. Spurs were having their ups and downs in pre-season, with the team beating Rangers, losing to Roma, while sharing the spoils with Sevilla. Antonio Conte’s troops are seen as hot favourites to win Saturday’s clash, but they will have to prove their worth on the field. Bayern Munich target Harry Kane is still part of the team, meaning that the opposition back-line should have him at bay.
Keep in mind that summer signing Richarlison misses out through suspension. The Saints, on the other hand, defeated Tottenham 3-2 in their last meeting in London, and, no doubt, they want to the history to be repeated. When Spurs and Southampton face each other in the Premier League a high-scoring affair is guaranteed; therefore, we are tempted to put our money on over 2.5 goals. Both Tella and Livramento are injured for the visiting side.
Highlighted Player (Harry Kane):
Widely regarded as one of England’s best strikers at the moment, Harry Kane enjoyed a meteoric rise at Tottenham Hotspur, scoring 21 Premier League goals during the 2014/2015 campaign to be voted PFA Young Player of the Year.
The highly rated striker went on to surpass that achievement the following season as he helped Tottenham Hotspur mount a serious title challenge for the first time in club’s recent history and he made seamless transition to international football. Kane scored four goals in his first ten appearances for England to prove he was here to stay and at the same time established himself as a first choice striker in Roy Hodgson’s squad ahead of the Euro 2016 finals.
Kane is a modern striker, who is extremely dangerous in the opposition box, but it was some outstanding goals from distance as well as link-up play with teammates that earned him an excellent reputation in world football. Kane is expected to lead both Tottenham and England in years to come, that is if he can resist the lure of top European clubs that continue to cast admiring glances his way.
Highlighted Team (Southampton):
Southampton are an English football club that have been playing their home games at St Mary's Stadium since 2001. The Saints were based at The Dell in the past and the capacity of Southampton’s new stadium is 32,505. Southampton wear red and white striped shirts and the colour of the team’s away kit is navy and green.
The Saints have yet to win the Premier League trophy, but they did well to clinch the FA Cup title back in 1976, while participating in the final of the prestigious competition in 1900, 1902 and 2003. Southampton outplayed Manchester United in the 1976 FA Cup final and that is probably the club’s greatest victory ever.
The club are well known for their football academy and Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale is one of the players who began their football carrier at the St. Mary’s Stadium outfit. Southampton’s fiercest rivals are Portsmouth and the two teams square off against each other in the South Coast Derby.
