Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Ground at Estadio San Mames will be shaking when Athletic Club and Atletico Madrid lock horns in the La Liga derby on Saturday. The Lions quickly bounced back from a 2-1 loss to Barcelona, with the team beating Valencia thanks to Prados Diaz’s goal in midweek and it has to be noted that Ernesto Valverde rested several first-team regulars against los Che. Pacey winger Nico Williams should be recalled to the starting XI as well as experienced midfielder Mikel Vesga, while the likes of Unai Simon, Yuri Berchiche, Inigo Ruiz de Galarreta, and Aitor Paredes remain in the treatment room.
Los Rojiblancos, on the other hand, failed to turn their dominance into victory in a goalless draw with Espanyol. As Athletic Bilbao are tough to beat in the Basque Country, we do not believe that Diego Simeone’s troops are capable of grabbing more than one point from the San Mames showdown. Thomas Lemar remains on the sidelines with injury, all Llorente, Griezmann, and Correa are pushing for a start.
Highlighted Player (Koke):
Jorge Resurreccion Merodio “Koke” has enjoyed a meteoric rise after coming through the youth ranks at Atletico Madrid, quickly becoming an important player for both club and country. Possessing impressive technical skills and very mature for his age, the highly rated midfielder is capable of covering just about any position in the middle of the park and he has been used as a central midfielder, left winger and right winger by both Diego Simeone and Vicente Del Bosque.
Koke has been a key member of one of the best generations in the history of Atletico Madrid, winning the 2013/2014 La Liga trophy and reaching the Champions League final the same year. Widely regarded as one of Europe’s best midfielders, it is only a matter of time before Koke will join an absolute top club and he is believed to be a primary target for La Liga rivals Barcelona.
While playing alongside Xavi Hernandez at the 2014 World Cup, Koke is believed to be a worthy successor of the former Catalans star in the national team now that he has retired, and with 20 Spain caps to his name, his international career is just starting.
Highlighted Team (Athletic Bilbao):
Athletic Club (mostly known as Athletic de Bilbao) is a Spanish football club from the Bask region which is playing currently in the Primera Division. The club from Bilbao is playing in the highest Spanish division since its founded in 1928 and is next to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona for a longest period of time in the Primera Division. Athletic de Bilbao used to play until 2012 in the San Mames stadium (also known as La Catedral).
Since 2013 the club is playing in anew stadium. Athletic Bilbao is known for its rivalry with Real Madrid. Atletico Madrid was founded by Bask students in Madrid. The old relationship between both teams is visible in the red blue jerseys of both teams.
The second team Athletic de Bilbao is playing in the Segunda Division B in Spain. Athletic Bilbao won the Primera Division 8 times, the Copa del Rey 24 times, the Spanish super cup 2 times. Athletic de Bilbao didn’t won any prizes in Europe yet but managed to be the runner up in 1977 and 2012 in the UEFA cup.
