Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Estadio San Mames will host Saturday’s football game between Athletic Club and Mallorca, the two teams who sit in the top half of the table ahead of Matchday 4. The Lions aim to build on a hard-fought 1-0 win over Celta Vigo, and they will once again rely on their rock-solid defence. Inaki Williams, who scored the winner against Os Celeste, will be the man to watch in the home team, while experienced midfielder Raul Garcia could be handed his first start of the season. The good news for the hosts is that both Capa and Pecharroman should be fit for the Mallorca clash.
The newcomers, on the other hand, have been performing above expectations at the start of the season. Los Bermellones aim to build on back-to-back wins over Alaves (1-0) and Espanyol (1-0), but beating Athletic at „San Mames“ is easier said than done. A close encounter is on the cards, and we are tempted to put our money on draw. The likes of Sastre, Raillo, Rodriguez, and Sanchez remain in the recovery room for the away team.
Highlighted Player (Iker Muniain):
Iker Muniain was once considered one of the most talented players in Spain, but he obviously failed to reach his full potential. Munian is an attacking midfielder, who is capable of playing as a forward as well and he began his youth career at Chantrea. In 2005 he made probably the best decision of his career as he joined Athletic Bilbao youth academy.
He made his debut for Athletic Bilbao on 30 July, 2009 in a 1-0 loss to Young Boys in the Europa League. Iker Munian impressed in the 2011/2012 La Liga campaign with the Lions, scoring nine goals in all competitions, but he failed to make a bigger progress. The Athletic Bilbao product has been struggling with injuries and it has to be noted that the injury he suffered against Sevilla on 4 April, 2015 could have ruined his career.
However, he returned to action on 20 December, but he was playing below expectations in the second half of the season. Iker Munian made his Spain debut on 29 February, 2012 in a friendly against Venezuela. La Roja won the match 5-0 and Munian came as a substitute in the 74th minute of the match.
Highlighted Team (Mallorca):
Thanks to a win over Deportivo La Coruna in the 2018/2019 Segunda Division play-offs final Mallorca secured promotion to Primera Division. Los Bermellones returned to the Spanish top flight following a six-year absence. Over the years Mallorca have turned their Estadi de son Moix into a real fortress, with the team producing much better showings at home than on the travels.
Opened in June 1999, the venue can hold up to 23,142 people. The club based in Balearic Islands are well known for their red shirts with one black stripe and black shorts. Mallorca’s away colours are white and red. Former Barcelona and Inter ace Samuel Eto’o is undisputedly the most notable footballer who played for the club.
Back in 1999 Mallorca made it to the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup final, with the team suffering a 2-1 loss to Lazio in the title game. Four years later los Bermellones won Spanish Copa del Rey, which is considered the club’s biggest success.
