Following a 2-1 loss at Villarreal, Getafe will look to give fans some cheer when they take on Girona on Matchday 24. Los Azulones are fighting hard to secure the La Liga survival, and, no doubt, Saturday’s clash is of big importance for the relegation-threatened hosts. Midfielder Carles Alena is widely expected to return to the starting XI, while there are no fresh injury worries in the home team.
Meanwhile, the Catalans aim to build on back-to-back wins over Almeria (6-2) and Athletic Club (3-2), and they are likely to stick to their attacking style of play. A central defender who can equally be deployed as a right-back, Djene Dakonam has emerged as one of the most influential Getafe players in the 2017/18 season. His road to prominence was a long one, however, and Djene had to bide his time in order to be recognized for quality he undoubtedly possesses. Dapaong-born Togolese international, Djene Dakonam made his first football steps as a youth member of Etoile Filante.
Spells in Benin and Cameroon with Tonnerre d’Abomey and Coton Sport, respectively, saw Djene Dakonam grab attention of Alcoron, who moved in to bring him to Spain in 2014. During two years in Spain Djene Dakonam made 59 league appearances before moving to Sint-Truidense. It was in Belgium that Djene Dakonam proved his defensive versatility and Getafe came calling the very next year, in 2017.
Djene proved to be an instant hit with the Azulones and is hoping a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs will not be too far away for him. The likes of Arsenal and Tottenham have been sniffing around him during the summer transfer window in 2018 but were ultimately scared off by his £31 million release clause.

After several unsuccessful attempts, finally secured promotion to Primera Division at the end of the 2016/2017 season. The Catalan outfit finished the campaign in second place in the standings, 14 points behind Levante and only two clear of third-placed Getafe. Girona play their home games at Montilivi and the capacity of the venue is 9.286.
Speaking of the club history, Girona were founded in the café Norat in La Rambla of Girona on July 23, 1930 and they played their first official game against Colonia Artigas. A number of Spanish coaches were in charge of the team in the past, but it has to be noted that Uruguayan tactician Dagoberto Moll (1965/1966) and Karoly Plattko (1948/1949) of Hungary were in charge of the club as well.
