Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Las Palmas will try to claim a major scalp in the La Liga round 12 when they take on high-flying Atletico Madrid at their Estadio de Gran Canaria on Friday evening. La Union Deportiva quickly bounced back from a 1-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano, with the team beating Almeria 2-1 on the road and, no doubt, they are high on spirits ahead of the visit of Atletico. Guinea forward Sory Kaba is pushing for a start after sealing the victory as a substitute at the weekend, while both Jonathan Viera and Sandro Ramirez should miss out with injuries.
Diego Simeone’s troops, on the other hand, recorded a routine 2-1 win over Alaves on Matchday 11 to stay in the title race. The capital club are on a six-game winning run in Primera Division and even though Las Palmas are tough to beat home, we are tempted to put our money on Alvaro Morata and Co. Memphis Depay is a major doubt, while Thomas Lemar remains in the recovery room.
Highlighted Player (Antoine Griezmann):
Anthony Griezmann is a French forward born on 21st March 1991 in Macon, and he is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting footballers at the moment. The pacey striker started showing his potential shortly after coming through Real Sociedad’s youth academy and he went on to score 46 goals in 179 league appearances for La Real. Excellent displays in Spanish la Liga saw him become a target for a number of top clubs, but he eventually choose to sign for Atletico Madrid, and that proved to be a very good decision.
Griezmann continued the rich vein of form at Vicente Calderon, scoring some important goals as los Colchoneros enjoyed domestic and European success, while also becoming a key member of the France national team.
Playing as a winger or second striker, Griezmann possesses impressive technical skills, he is a strong finisher and still finds time to work hard for his side, so no wonder he is widely regarded as one of the leading forwards on the continent. He won the U19 European Championship with France and is tipped to lead Les Bleus to glory on senior level as well.
Highlighted Team (Las Palmas):
Las Palmas are a Spanish football club based in the Canary Islands. The club was founded on 22 August, 1949. Los Amarillos play in Spanish La Liga and the team’s home ground is Estadio Gran Canaria. The stadium was opened in 2003 and it’s current capacity is 32,150. Miguel Angel Ramirez is the club’s chairman and the club’s main rivals are Tenerife.
Las Palmas impressed in the 2015/2016 La liga campaign, with the team finishing the season in 11th place in the standings. However, it has to be noted that los Amarillos finished the 1968/1969 Primera Division campaign in second place in the table, 11 points behind Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Speaking of Copa del Rey, Las Palmas made it to the final of the Spanish Cup in 1978. Las Palmas eliminated Sporting Gijon in the semis (5-3), but Barcelona outplayed los Amarillos in the title game (3-1).
