Our prediction for this Primera Division match:
Las Palmas and Sevilla face each other at Estadio de Gran Canaria in what is expected to be a close season opener. La Union Deportiva did well to hold star-studded Liverpool to a goalless draw in their last warm-up game, but they surely want to kickstart the new La Liga campaign with a win. The club chiefs have signed permanent deals with the likes of Oli McBurnie, Scott McKenna, Jasper Cillessen, Manu Fuster, and Marvin Park, while Saul Coco is no longer part of the team after joining Serie A side Torino.
Los Sevillanos, on the other hand, have added the likes of Saul Niguez, Lucien Agoume, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Chidera Ejuke to the team, while Youssef En-Nesyri, Oliver Torres, Erik Lamela, and Luismi Cruz have left the club. As Sevilla chiefs failed to add top class players to the squad, we are tempted to bet on Las Palmas, who have turned their stadium into a real fortress.
Highlighted Player (Marcos Acuña):
Marcos Acuna is an Argentina international who plays for Sporting Club de Portugal as a winger. Born in Zapala, Argentina on October 28, 1991, Acuna started his senior career at Ferro Carril Oeste. After scoring 5 goals in 117 appearances for the Argentine club from 2010 to 2014, he moved to Racing Club in the summer of 2014.
The 172-cm-tall footballer looked sharper in front of goal during his spell with la Academia, scoring 16 goals in 78 appearances for the club. In June 2017 Marcos Acuna decided to take a step forward in his career, joining Portuguese outfit Sporting CP. He made his debut with the Lions in a 2-0 win over Deportivo Aves on August 6, 2017.
Acuna plays for the Argentine national team as well, making his debut for la Albiceleste on November 15, 2016 in a World Cup qualifier against Colombia. His main position is left-back, but he is used as both left midfielder and left winger as well.
Highlighted Team (Las Palmas):
Las Palmas are a Spanish football club based in the Canary Islands. The club was founded on 22 August, 1949. Los Amarillos play in Spanish La Liga and the team’s home ground is Estadio Gran Canaria. The stadium was opened in 2003 and it’s current capacity is 32,150. Miguel Angel Ramirez is the club’s chairman and the club’s main rivals are Tenerife.
Las Palmas impressed in the 2015/2016 La liga campaign, with the team finishing the season in 11th place in the standings. However, it has to be noted that los Amarillos finished the 1968/1969 Primera Division campaign in second place in the table, 11 points behind Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Speaking of Copa del Rey, Las Palmas made it to the final of the Spanish Cup in 1978. Las Palmas eliminated Sporting Gijon in the semis (5-3), but Barcelona outplayed los Amarillos in the title game (3-1).
