Our prediction for this Scottish Cup match:
Somerset Park will host Saturday’s Scottish Cup game between Ayr and St. Mirren, the two teams who meet for the first time since April 2017. Back then St. Mirren rolled over Ayr 6-2 in the Championship, meaning that the hosts are hungry for revenge. Ayr, though, are fully focused on securing the Championship survival, which is probably the main reason why home win should not be considered.
The Saints, on the other hand, quickly bounced back from a 2-0 loss to Rangers, with the team beating Dundee United 2-1 in their last Premiership game. St. Mirren are more of a team than Ayr, and we predict that the favourites are going to book their place in the last 16. Ireland international Connor McCarthy remains in the recovery room, but he should be the only absentee in the away team in Saturday’s clash.
Highlighted Player (Marcus Fraser):
Marcus Fraser is a Scottish footballer who plays for Ross County as a defender. Fraser is a product of Celtic football school, but he made no more than one appearance for the Hoops in the Scottish Premier League. He played his only game for the Scottish giants in a 3-1 win at Inverness on February 9, 2013.
After ending his loan spell with Cowdenbeath, Marcus Fraser signed a deal with Ross County in 2015. Over the years, the defender has established himself as a first-team regular with the Staggies, making 26 appearances in the Scottish top flight last term.
Speaking of his international career, Fraser has five caps for the Scotland U21 team, but he has yet to earn a call-up for the senior team. His main position on the field is a right-back, but he is capable of producing good performances as a centre-back as well. Marcus Fraser was born in Bishopbriggs, Scotland, on June 23, 1994.
Highlighted Team (St Mirren):
St Mirren are Scottish football club that compete in the Scotland Premier League. Founded in 1877, the Buddies play home games at St Mirren Park. The venue, which was built in 2009, can hold up to 8,000 spectators.
St Mirren are well known for their white and black home kit, while black and violet are the dominant colours of their away kit. The Scottish club played their first match against Johnstone Britannia on October 6, 1877, winning the game by one goal to nil. St Mirren have a bitter rivalry with Greenock Morton, and there have always been fireworks in clashes between the two clubs.
The Buddies recorded their biggest win on January 30, 1960, with the team crushing Glasgow University 15-0 in the Scottish Cup. David McCrae is leading the club’s all-time goal-scoring chart with 221 league goals. St Mirren have won the Scotland Premiership three times (1925/26, 1958/59, 1986/87).
