Our prediction for this Segunda Division match:
Leganes and Sporting Gijon, the two teams who are eyeing a place in the playoffs, take on each other in Madrid on Sunday evening. Leganes aim to build on a 2-1 win over Alcorcon, with the team eyeing their 14th home triumph of the season. Despite failing to find the net in the last league match, experienced attacker Borja Baston should continue to lead the line for the hosts.
Los Rojiblancos, on the other hand, suffered a dip in form, with the team collecting only one point from the previous four league fixtures. Since Sporting are not regarded as good travellers, we believe that there is a big value in betting on the capital club. Leganes have not defeated Gijon in a competitive match since May 2000, and, no doubt, the hosts are desperate to put an end to the negative trend.
Highlighted Player (Rubén Pérez):
Rubén Pérez is a Spanish footballer who was born in Ecija on April 26, 1989. The 178-cm tall midfielder is a product of Atletico Madrid youth academy, but he made no more than one appearance in La Liga for los Rojiblancos. Ruben Perez, though, played 53 games for Atletico Madrid B before joining Deportivo La Coruna on loan.
The Spanish footballer spent some time on loan at Getafe, Real Betis, Elche and Torino as well before joining Granada in 2015. After making 31 appearances for the Andalusian side from 2015 to 2018, Ruben Perez joined Leganes on loan in 2016.
In 2018 he signed a permanent deal with Leganes and he has been playing for the capital club ever since. His main position is defensive midfielder, but he is capable of playing as a central midfielder as well. Ruben Perez has 5 caps for Spain U21 team, but he has yet to receive a call-up for the senior squad.
Highlighted Team (Gijon):
Sporting Gijon are a Spanish football club that competes in La Liga. Sporting Gijon’s home ground is El Molinon, the stadium that was built in 1908. El Molinon is the oldest football field in Spain and the capacity of the stadium is 30,000. Sporting Gijon’s home kit is red and white and the club’s main rivals are Real Oviedo.
The two teams take on each other in the Asturian derby. Sporting Gijon did remarkably well to finish the 1978/1979 La Liga campaign in second position in the standings and that is considered the club’s biggest success. Los Rojiblancos were runners-up in Spanish Copa Del Rey in 1981 and 1982, but they have yet to win the Spanish Cup.
The club was founded in 1905 and the club’s original name was Sporting Gijones. Sporting Gijon participated in the UEFA Cup on six occasions, but they did not record a good result in the European competition.
