Our prediction for this Segunda Division match:
Buoyed by a hard-fought 1-0 win over Burgos, Zaragoza will look to escape the danger zone when they host Sporting Gijon to their Estadio La Romareda on Sunday. There have been under 2.5 goals in each of their last ten league fixtures, and we are positive that los Blanquillos will rely on their rock-solid defence against los Rojiblancos. Experienced forward Alvaro Gimenez should be recalled to the starting XI after scoring the winner against Burgos.
Sporting Gijon, on the other hand, suffered a dip in form, with the team failing to win the previous four league fixtures. Los Rojiblancos are low on spirits ahead of the trip to Zaragoza, which is probably the main reason why home win should be considered. Uros Djurdjevic should continue to lead the line for the hosts despite failing to find the net in a 1-0 loss to Almeria.
Highlighted Player (James Igbekeme):
James Igbekeme is a Nigerian footballer who plays for Zaragoza in La Liga 2 as a winger. Igbekeme’s primary position is central midfield, but he is capable of producing fine displays as a left midfielder as well.
The Nigeria international started his senior career at Portuguese club Ribeirao, and after scoring two goals in 43 appearances for Os Ribeirenses, he moved to fellow Portuguese outfit Gil Vicente. In 2018 he decided to move to Spain, signing a four-year deal with Zaragoza. The 170-cm tall footballer made his Zaragoza debut on August 19, 2018 in a 2-1 win over Rayo Majadahonda.
He scored his first goal for the club in a 4-0 win at Real Oviedo on September 8, 2018. Igbekeme’s preferred foot is left, and his contract with los Blanquillos should expire on June 30, 2023. The Zaragoza midfielder born in Lagos on July 4, 1995 has yet to receive a call-up for the Nigeria national football team.
Highlighted Team (Gijon):
Sporting Gijon are a Spanish football club that competes in La Liga. Sporting Gijon’s home ground is El Molinon, the stadium that was built in 1908. El Molinon is the oldest football field in Spain and the capacity of the stadium is 30,000. Sporting Gijon’s home kit is red and white and the club’s main rivals are Real Oviedo.
The two teams take on each other in the Asturian derby. Sporting Gijon did remarkably well to finish the 1978/1979 La Liga campaign in second position in the standings and that is considered the club’s biggest success. Los Rojiblancos were runners-up in Spanish Copa Del Rey in 1981 and 1982, but they have yet to win the Spanish Cup.
The club was founded in 1905 and the club’s original name was Sporting Gijones. Sporting Gijon participated in the UEFA Cup on six occasions, but they did not record a good result in the European competition.
