Our prediction for this Bundesliga match:
There will be fireworks when Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 take on each other in the Ruhr derby on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow-Blacks aim to stay in the title race, but their display in a 3-0 loss to Leipzig was anything but promising. The likes of Gregor Kobel, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Mateu Morey, and Mahmoud Dahoud are out of contention with injuries for the home team. Die Knappen, on the other hand, recorded their first win of the season at the weekend, with the team beating Bochum 3-1 in Gelsenkirchen.
Schalke, though, are not regarded as good travellers, which is probably the main reason why we predict the hosts are going to pick up all three points from the local derby. Both Cedric Brunner and Marcin Kaminski remain on the sidelines through injuries for the visiting side. You should know that Borussia are eyeing their fourth consecutive win over Schalke.
Highlighted Player (Marco Reus):
Marco Reus is a German football player who was born on 31 May, 1989. The pacey attacking midfielder, who is capable of playing as a winger as well, started his senior career at Rot Weiss Ahlen and it has to be noted that he made 43 league appearances for the club in lower leagues.
In 2009 he signed a four-year contract with Borussia M’gladbach and he scored his first Bundesliga goal against Mainz on 28 August, 2009. After impressing with the Fohlen in the 2011/2012 Bundesliga campaign, he joined Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season. He has been playing for the Millionaires ever since and he represents Germany on the international stage as well.
However, he was more than unfortunate to miss the 2014 FIFA World Cup with injury when Joachim Low’s team lifted the prestigious trophy. To make things even worse for Marco Reus, he was forced to withdraw from the Germany Euro 2016 squad as well (injury). The German ace has a contract with Borussia Dortmund which expires on 30 June, 2019.
Highlighted Team (Schalke):
Schalke 04 are a professional football club founded in 1904. Die Knappen (The Miners) compete in German Bundesliga and they have won seven domestic titles. Schalke have clinched five German Cup trophies as well, while lifting the UEFA Cup title in 1997. The German club defeated Italian side Inter on penalties in the title game and that was the last time the final of the competition was played in a two-legged format.
Schalke 04 play their home matches at Veltins-Arena, the stadium that has been the home of the team since 2001. The capacity of Veltins-Arena is 62,271. It is well known that Borussia Dortmund are Schalke’s main rivals and the Ruhy neighbours face each other in the Revierderby.
The likes of Klaus Fichtel (477), Norbert Nigbur (355), Rolf Russmann (304), Klaus Fischer (295), Olaf Thon (295) and Herbert Lutkebohmert (286) are the players with most appearances for die Knappen. The colour of Schalke’s home kit is blue.
