Our prediction for this Championship match:
Saturday’s football game at Oakwell pits together Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday, the two teams with entirely different ambitions in the season finale. The Tykes recorded a routine 3-1 win over rock-bottom Wycombe, with the team moving one step closer to securing their place in the playoffs. Barnsley have been impressive in the second half of the season, and even though midfielder Alex Mowatt is banned for Saturday’s clash, home win should be considered.
The Owls, on the other hand, will find it hard to secure the Championship survival, with the team sitting in the penultimate position in the standings ahead of the trip to South Yorkshire. Sheffield Wednesday suffered seven defeats in the previous eight league fixtures, and we do not believe that they are capable of spoiling Barnsley’s troops at Oakwell. A man to watch in the home team will be Daryl Dike, who scored a brace in the midweek victory.
Highlighted Player (Patrick Schmidt):
Patrick Schmidt is an Austria international who plays for Championship club Barnsley as a forward. Born in Eisenstadt, Austria on July 22, 1998 Schmidt began his senior career at Admira Wacker. After making 46 appearances for Admira Wacker II, the 179-cm tall striker started playing for the first-team in the 2016/2017 Austrian Bundesliga season.
Three years later Patrick Schmidt decided to take a step forward in his football career as he signed a four-year deal with Barnsley. The full-of-pace forward scored eight goals in the 2018/2019 season for Admira and he is widely expected to shine with the Tykes in the 2019/2020 Championship campaign. It has to be noted that Schmidt played for Austria U16, U17, U18 and U19 teams.
The Barnsley attacker currently represents Austria U21 team in international matches. His main position is centre-forward, but he is used as both left and right winger as well.
Highlighted Team (Sheffield United):
Sheffield United are a professional football club that compete in the Championship. The Blades finished the 2016/2017 League One campaign in top position in the standings, with the team collecting exactly 100 points in the process. Sheffield United last competed in the Premier League in the 2006/2007 season and they were more than unfortunate not to secure the top flight survival.
The Blades finished the season in 18th place in the process and it has to be noted that they were level on points with Wigan Athletic, who managed to avoid the relegation to the English second tier. Sheffield United welcome their rivals at Bramal Lane, the stadium which was opened on April 30, 1855. The current capacity of the venue is 32.702.
The club have numerous rivalries, but the most notable one is the rivalry with their city neighbors Sheffield Wednesday. The two teams face each other in the Steel City derby and it has to be noted that United share rivalry with the likes of Barnsley, Rotherham United, Doncaster Rovers and Leeds United as well.
