Cardiff City take on Sunderland at their Cardiff City Stadium in what is expected to be an interesting Championship encounter. The Bluebirds defeated Bristol Rovers in their last warm-up game, but they will have a much bigger fish to fry against the promotion hopefuls. The likes of El Ghazi, Calum Chambers, Chris Willock, and Wilfried Kanga have joined the club this summer, while Eboue Adams is no longer part of the team.
The Black Cats, meanwhile, finished the last season in 16th place in the standings and, no doubt, they are eager to make amends for the unsuccessful campaign. New boss Regis Le Bris can count on new signings Alan Browne and Ian Poveda for the season opener and seeing that the club chiefs managed to keep hold of key players in the summer transfer window, away win should be considered. In their last meeting in South Wales Sunderland defeated Cardiff City 2-0.

The Bluebirds played their first ever Premier League match on 18 August, 2013, but they were beaten by West Ham United (0-2) on their debut in the English top flight. However, a week later Fraizer Campbell (two goals) and Aron Gunnarson helped Cardiff City record their first ever win in the Premier League.
