Our prediction for this Championship match:
Kassam Stadium will host Saturday’s football game between Oxford United and Preston, the two teams who are level on points in the Championship standings. The Yellows aim to make amends for back-to-back losses to Coventry and Blackburn and the fact that they defeated Norwich 2-0 in their first home game is surely giving fans a reason for optimism ahead of Matchday 4. Midfielder Will Goodwin should be the only absentee in the home team.
The Lilywhites, on the other hand, aim to build on a thrilling EFL Cup win (5-0) over Harrogate. As Preston are likely to stick to their attacking style of play, we are tempted to place our bets on both teams to score. In their last meeting in a competitive match, back in 2000, Preston defeated Oxford United 3-1 in the League One. Sam Greenwood is pushing for a start after scoring a brace in the EFL Cup triumph, while fellow midfielder Alistair McCann remains on the sidelines with a thigh injury.
Highlighted Player (Greg Cunningham):
Greg Cunningham is a product of Manchester City football academy. Irish footballer, who was born on January 31, 1991 in Galway, though, made no more than two appearances for Manchester City in the Premier League. After ending his loan spells with Leicester City and Nottingham Forest the defender moved to Bristol City in 2012 and he played for the Robins from 2012 to 2015.
Creg Cunningham did well to win the Football League Trophy with Bristol City in the 2014/2015 season, but at the end of the season he moved to Preston North End. The Irish footballer has established himself as a first-team regular at Preston and it has to be noted that he was appointed captain of the team on July 24, 2017.
Speaking of his international career, Greg Cunningham made his debut for Republic of Ireland on May 28, 2010 in a 3-0 win over Algeria. His main position is left-back, but he is capable of playing as a centre-back if needed as well.
Highlighted Team (Oxford United):
Oxford United are one of the oldest clubs in the League One as they were founded back in 1893. However, Oxford United adopted their current name 67 years later and have been playing under it ever since.
Over the years the Yellows have built a great rivalry with Swindon Town and there have always been fireworks in clashes between the two sides. Oxford United play home matches at Kassam Stadium, the venue with the capacity of 12,500. The stadium was built in 1997 and has been Oxford United’s home ground ever since. The Boys from Up the Hill are well known for their yellow and blue colours, but they play their away games in dark blue (with a little yellow) or black kits.
Oxford’s player with the most league appearances is John Shuker, playing 478 games for the club from 1962 to 1977. On the other hand, Jim Magilton is the club’s most capped player in internationals, playing 18 games for Northern Ireland.
