Our prediction for this Championship match:
Out-of-sorts Preston will try to put an end to their four-game winless run in the Championship when they take on Southampton on Wednesday evening. The Lilywhites have been struggling at the back of late, with the team conceding 12 goals in total in the previous four league matches. Preston are eager to stay in the playoffs berth, but they will have a big fish to fry against the fellow promotion-chasing side. The hosts will be without Alistair McCann, Andrew Hughes, Calvin Ramsey, and Emil Riis Jakobsen in the midweek clash.
The Saints, on the other hand, have been in a fine form of late, with the team beating the likes of Leeds, Stoke, and Hull, while sharing the spoils with Rotherham. As Southampton have been raising their form week by week, we are tempted to put our money on the visiting team. The likes of Jack Stephens, Juan Larios, and Ross Stewart should miss out with injuries for the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Greg Cunningham):
Greg Cunningham is a product of Manchester City football academy. Irish footballer, who was born on January 31, 1991 in Galway, though, made no more than two appearances for Manchester City in the Premier League. After ending his loan spells with Leicester City and Nottingham Forest the defender moved to Bristol City in 2012 and he played for the Robins from 2012 to 2015.
Creg Cunningham did well to win the Football League Trophy with Bristol City in the 2014/2015 season, but at the end of the season he moved to Preston North End. The Irish footballer has established himself as a first-team regular at Preston and it has to be noted that he was appointed captain of the team on July 24, 2017.
Speaking of his international career, Greg Cunningham made his debut for Republic of Ireland on May 28, 2010 in a 3-0 win over Algeria. His main position is left-back, but he is capable of playing as a centre-back if needed as well.
Highlighted Team (Southampton):
Southampton are an English football club that have been playing their home games at St Mary's Stadium since 2001. The Saints were based at The Dell in the past and the capacity of Southampton’s new stadium is 32,505. Southampton wear red and white striped shirts and the colour of the team’s away kit is navy and green.
The Saints have yet to win the Premier League trophy, but they did well to clinch the FA Cup title back in 1976, while participating in the final of the prestigious competition in 1900, 1902 and 2003. Southampton outplayed Manchester United in the 1976 FA Cup final and that is probably the club’s greatest victory ever.
The club are well known for their football academy and Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale is one of the players who began their football carrier at the St. Mary’s Stadium outfit. Southampton’s fiercest rivals are Portsmouth and the two teams square off against each other in the South Coast Derby.
