Our prediction for this Championship match:
After eliminating Port Vale in their EFL Cup opener, Rotherham will look to give fans yet another reason for celebration when they take on Reading in the Championship round 3. The Millers were not in action at the weekend, and seeing that key players were rested in the EFL Cup triumph, tired legs should not prove to be a big problem for the home side. Lee Peltier is back, while Oliver Rathbone is pushing for a start after overcoming his injury.
The Royals, on the other hand, quickly bounced back from a 1-0 loss to Blackpool, with the team beating Cardiff City 2-1 on Matchday 2, but they suffered a 2-1 loss to Stevenage in the EFL Cup in midweek. Reading are not regarded as good travellers; therefore, we predict that Rotherham will record their first win of the season this weekend. All Femi Azeez, Sam Hutchinson, Scott Dann, and Lucas Joao should miss out with injuries for the away side.
Highlighted Player (Josh Vickers):
A product of Arsenal's youth academy, Josh Vickers, is an English footballer who plays for League One Club Lincoln City. The 6ft 2-inch goalkeeper's first appearance came for Isthmian League outfit Canvey Island having joined them on loan in August 2013. He went on to play over 30 games for the club before returning to Arsenal to sign his first professional contract.
His time at the Gunners was shortlived, however, and involved another loan to Conference South club Concord Rangers before making a permanent switch to Premier League side Swansea City in August 2015 on a two-year contract. In his time at Swansea, Vickers made zero appearances for the first team but did feature in the club's under-18 and under-23 team.
Vickers spent his 2016/2017 season on loan to Barnet, where he made his League One debut against Cambridge United on the 6th of August, 2016. Born on the 1st of December, 1995, the 23-year-old has featured 47 times for his current club Lincoln, on a contract that expires on the 30th of June, 2020.
Highlighted Team (Reading):
Reading FC is a professional football club that play in the Championship. The club was formed in 1871 and Madejski Stadium has been the home of Reading since 1998. The Royals used to play their home games at Elm Park in the past (1896 - 1998). Reading made it to the FA Cup semi-finals on two occasions (1927, 2015), but they have yet to win the prestigious trophy.
The likes of Robin Friday, Trevor Senior, Steve Death, Shaka Hislop, Phil Parkinson, Alf Messer, Jimmy Quinn, Michael Gilkes, Ronnie Blackman, Pavel Pogrebnyak and Martin Hicks are some of their more notable footballers. Aldershot Town were considered Reading’s fiercest rivals, but the Shots went out of business in 1992.
Seeing that Aldershot rejoined the league in 2008 it remains to be seen if the rivalry is going to be re-established in near future. Swindon Town and Oxford United are considered Reading’s big rivals as well.
