Our prediction for this Championship match:
Buoyed by back-to-back wins over Hull City and Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday will be aiming to give fans yet another reason to celebrate when they take on Preston on Matchday 19. The Owls are brimming with confidence ahead of Saturday’s clash, but they will have to prove their worth. The likes of Ihiekwe, Kobacki, and Famewo remain in the recovery room, but there are no fresh injury concerns in the home team.
The Lilywhites, on the other hand, are on an eight-game winless run in the English second tier. As Preston have been struggling offensively of late, we are tempted to bet on Sheffield Wednesday, who have turned their Hillsborough into a real fortress. In their last meeting in the Championship the Owls defeated the Lilywhites 1-0, with Marvin Johnson scoring the only goal of the match. Both Robert Brady and Ched Evans miss out with injuries, while defender Liam Lindsay is a major doubt.
Highlighted Player (Josh Windass):
Born in Hull, England on January 9, 1994, John Windass is a professional footballer who plays for Wigan Athletic. Windass is a product of Huddersfield Town youth academy, but he did not play for the Terriers at senior level.
The 175-cm-tall midfielder began his senior career at Accrington Stanley and after scoring 22 goals in 77 appearances in the league for the club, he moved to Glasgow Rangers in the summer of 2016. Two years later Josh Windass joined Wigan Athletic and he has been playing for the DW Stadium outfit ever since. He scored his first Championship goal on September 18, 2018 in a 2-1 win over Hull City.
His main position is attacking midfield, but he is used as both central midfielder and second striker as well. It has to be noted that Josh is the son of former footballer Dean Windass, who played for the likes of Hull City, Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Bradford City during his professional career.
Highlighted Team (Preston):
Preston North End or Preston were founded in 1880. The Lilywhites or the Invincibles play their home games at Deepdale, the stadium that was built in 1875 and opened three years later.
In 1889 Preston won their first FA Cup trophy and they did well to beat Huddersfield Town in the final of the 1938 FA Cup final. However, the club’s biggest success came in 1889 and 1890 when they won back-to-back domestic trophies (First Division).
Preston have yet to win the League Cup title, but they were runners-up in 1888, 1922, 1937, 1954, 1964. Preston’s main rivals are Blackpool and the two teams square off against each other in the West Lancashire derby. In their first ever meeting in the West Lancashire derby (1901) Preston recorded a 4-1 win over Blackpool.
Burnley and Blackburn Rovers are considered Preston’s big rivals as well. The colour of Preston’s shirts is white and they wear dark blue shorts.
