Our prediction for this Champions League match:
Dinamo Zagreb will be aiming to bounce back from a massive 9-2 loss to Bayern Munich when they take on Monaco at their Stadion Maksimir. Dinamo Zagreb rolled over their local rivals Lokomotiva 5-1 at the weekend, but they will have a much bigger fish to fry against les Rouges et Blancs. A man to watch in the home team will be Bruno Petkovic, who is on a three-game goalscoring run, while both Dino Peric and Mauro Perkovic are out of contention with injuries.
Monaco, on the other hand, defeated ten-man Barcelona in their Champions League opener, but beating the Blues in Zagreb is easier said than done. Taking everything into account, both sides should be happy with one point from Wednesday’s encounter. Lamine Camara is pushing for a rare start after scoring a late winner against Montpellier, while all Coulibaly, Diop, and Majecki remain in the treatment room.
Highlighted Player (Breel Embolo):
Born in Younde, Cameroon on February 14, 1997, Breel Embolo is a striker who plays for Bundesliga side Schalke 04. Embolo began his youth career at Nordstern back in 2008, but two years later he moved to Old Boys.
In 2010 the Switzerland international joined Basel and he continued playing for the RotBlau at senior level. After scoring 21 goals in 61 appearances for the club in the Swiss Super League, Breel Embolo signed a five-year deal with Schalke 04 in June, 2016 for a fee of €20 million.
The Schalke striker made his Bundesliga debut on August 27 in a 1-0 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt. Speaking of his international career, Breel Embolo has four caps for Switzerland U21 team and he made his senior debut on March 31, 2015 in a 1-1 draw with United States of America. Embolo is very powerful striker, he is technically strong, he has explosive pace and a composed finisher.
Highlighted Team (Dinamo Zagreb):
Arguably the biggest club in Croatia and one of the most prominent football outfits in the Balkan region, Dinamo Zagreb have won 18 league titles, 11 of which came successively. Dinamo Zagreb have never been relegated to a lower tier of both Croatian and Yugoslav football.
Modri as they are called in Croatia are renowned for their impressive production line of youth footballers. Their highly organised football academy has so far produced world-class players such as Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic, Marko Pjaca and many others. Dinamo Zagreb play their home matches at the Stadion Maksimir in front of 35,000 people.
The club lacked support during the last couple of seasons due to fans’ disagreement with club management, most notably notorious Zdravko Mamic, who is under investigation for long-lasting corruption, tax evasion and embezzlement. For the first time since 2015, Dinamo Zagreb will have the full support of their most faithful supporters in the Champions League.
