Our prediction for this Champions League match:
Juventus will look to keep their 100% record in Group H intact when they take on Zenit at their Allianz Stadium. The Bianconeri have been struggling in the Serie A of late, and, no doubt, a win over Zenit will see them regain a much-needed confidence. The bad news for the hosts, though, is that Federico Chiesa has joined the likes of De Sciglio, Kean, Ramsey, and Rugani in the recovery room. USA international Weston McKennie is pushing for a start after scoring as a substitute in a 2-1 loss to Verona at the weekend.
The Zenitchiki, on the other hand, aim to build on back-to-back wins over Spartak Moscow (7-1) and Dynamo Moscow (4-1). The Russian outfit have been scoring goals for fun in the national championship of late, but beating Massimilliano Allegri’s troops in Turin is easier said than done. Given Juve’s anything but brilliant form in October, the share of spoils is on the cards. Brazil international Malcom is rated doubtful for Tuesday’s clash.
Highlighted Player (Leonardo Bonucci):
Over the years Leonardo Bonucci has established himself as one of Juve’s key defenders. The 190-cm-tall centre back, who is capable of playing as a right back as well, was born in Viterbo on 1 May, 1987 and he started his senior career at Inter. However, he made no more than one league appearance for the Nerrazzurri between 2005 and 2009.
After ending his loan spells with the likes of Treviso and Pisa, he joined Bari in 2009 and he scored one goal in 38 league games for the club. Juventus signed him in July, 2010 for a fee of €15.5 million. Leonardo Bonucci won his fifth Scudetto with Juve in the 2015/2016 season and he played in the 2014/2015 Champions League final against Barcelona. However, the Bianconeri were beaten by Barca in the title game.
Bonucci made his Italy debut on 3 March, 2010 and two years later he participated in the Euro 2012 final against Spain. The Azzurri were hammered by Vicente del Bosque’s troops 4-0 in the Olympic Stadium clash.
Highlighted Team (Zenit):
Zenit Saint Petersburg are a Russian football club that was founded by workers of Leningrad Metal Plant in 1925. Over the years the Zenitchiki have established themselves as one of the dominant forces in Russian football, but they won their first domestic trophy in 1984.
Zenit have been impressive in the national championship in the 21st century, winning four league titles, while clinching two Russian Cups (2010, 2016). The Zenitchiki are a regular participant of the Champions League group stages and in 2008 they did well to win the UEFA Cup. The Russian outfit defeated Glasgow Rangers (2-0) in the title game, with Denisov and Zyryanov both finding the net in the final of the competition.
Zenit play their home games at Krestovsky Stadium, the venue that was opened in 2016. Gazprom are the club’s main sponsors and the colour of their home shirts is white-sky blue. Brazilian ace Hulk is probably the most notable footballer who played for Zenit.
