Our prediction for this Coppa Italia match:
After failing to win the previous four league matches, Sassuolo will look to get back on course when they take on Spezia in the Italian Cup last 32. The Neroverdi came from behind to share the spoils with Bologna at the weekend, with the team creating several clear-cut opportunities to score in the second half. Both Uros Racic and Cristian Volpato are pushing for a start, whereas Agustin Alvarez remains on the sidelines with an ACL injury.
The Serie B, on the other hand, have drawn each of their last three league matches, but they will have a big fish to fry against Sassuolo, who are a real force to be reckoned with at home. Albik Akdal is available for selection despite his Serie B ban, while fellow midfielder Wisniewski remains in the recovery room. In their last meeting at Mapei Stadium – Citta del Tricolore Sassuolo defeated Spezia.
Highlighted Player (Domenico Berardi):
Once one of the most promising young players in Serie A, Domenico Berardi is the Italian footballer that plays for Sassuolo and the Italy national team. Born in Cairati, Calabria, the forward begun his professional career back in 2012, when he helped the Neroverdi win Serie B and play in Serie A next season and was named as the best player of the competition, only 18 years of age.
He made his first appearance for the Italy U19 national team in the same season. His excellent performances draw the attention of Juventus and the Old Lady confirmed in the beginning of the Season 2013/14 that Domenico Berardi joined the club on a co-ownership deal.
The player never played for Juventus because he remained in Sassuolo and he recently signed a new contract with the Neroverdi. The 24-year-old right winger, who can also play as a left winger and a second striker, made his first appearance in the senior national team in June 2018.
Highlighted Team (Spezia):
Spezia is a professional Italian club based in Spezia, Liguria. The Bianconeri secured promotion to the Serie A in the 2019/20 season, with the team beating Frosinone in the Serie B playoffs final. Spezia are well known for their black and white home jerseys, and black is the dominant colour of their away kit.
The club’s home ground Stadio Alberto Picco has the capacity of 10,336 people. The venue was opened back in 1919, with architect Gregotti being in charge of the project. In 2002 the club chiefs decided to reach an agreement with Inter which saw Spezia become Inter’s feeder club.
As a result, the likes of Goran Pandev, Aco Stojkov, and Alex Cordaz joined the Bianconeri in the first season. Spezia then suffered a bankruptcy, but in 2008 they were re-founded. In the 2020/21 season the Bianconeri will compete in the Italian elite division for the first time ever.
