Our prediction for this EFL Cup match:
Port Vale and Arsenal square off against each other at Vale Park in the closing match of Wednesday’s program. The Valiants are eyeing their third consecutive league win, but they will have a mountain to climb against the Premier League giants. A man to watch in the home team will be Devante Cole, who has found his goal-scoring touch of late, while defender Liam Gordon is a major doubt and will be assessed ahead of the kick-off.
The Gunners, on the other hand, came from behind to share the spoils with Man City in the Premier League derby. Gabriel Martinelli is widely expected to return to the starting XI after scoring a late equalizer against Pep Guardiola’s troops, while fit-again winger Bukayo Saka is unlikely to be risked. Summer signing Eberechi Eze is expected to start against Port Vale as well. Anyhow, Mikel Arteta has strength in depth and regardless of which players will be deployed in the starting XI, away win should be considered.
Highlighted Player (Eberechi Eze):
Eberechi Eze is a talented football player who was born in Greenwich, England on June 29, 1998. Eze started his youth career at Millwall and in the summer of 2016 he moved to Queens Park Rangers, signing a one-year contract with the capital club.
Eze scored 4 goals in 42 appearances for the Hoops in the 2018/2019 Championship campaign, while providing 4 assists for his teammates. His main position is attacking midfield, but he is capable of playing as both right and left midfielder as well. Eze is a footballer of Nigerian descent, but he has yet to make his debut for the Super Eagles in international matches.
Given his place of birth, the 173-cm tall midfielder was eligible to play for the England U20 team and he made his debut for the Three Lions on October 11, 2018 in a 2-1 victory over Italy. His preferred foot is right.
Highlighted Team (Port Vale):
Nicknamed the Valiants, Port Vale are a professional club that compete in the League Two. Port Vale welcome their rivals at Vale Park, and they wear white and black kit when playing in front of home fans. Yellow, on the other hand, is the dominant colour of their away kit.
The Valiants’ home ground, which was built in 1950, can hold up to 49,768 people. Championship side Stoke City are seen as one of the club’s fiercest rivals, but their rivalry is pretty healthy. The two teams first met on December 2, 1882, with the Potters emerging triumphant (1-0).
The Valiants maintain a rivalry with fellow League 2 club Crewe Alexandra as well. Speaking of the club’s titles, it has to be noted that Port Vale have won Football League Trophy on two occasions (1993, 2001). A 9-1 win over Chesterfield from September 24, 1932 is the club’s biggest triumph.
