Our prediction for this EFL Cup match:
Prenton Park will host Tuesday’s EFL Cup game between Tranmere and Liecester City, the two teams who meet for the first time since 2009. Back then Tranmere defeated Leicester 2-0 in the League One, meaning that the Foxes are hungry for revenge. Leicester aim to keep their 100% record in the 2023/2024 season intact, but bear in mind that boss Enzo Maresca is going to use the midweek clash to test as many players as possible.
All Allbrighton, Castagne, Thomas, Casadei, and Justin are pushing for a start, while defender Conor Coady misses out with a foot injury. The Super Whites, on the other hand, were struggling at the back in back-to-back defeats to Salford (3-4) and Notts County (1-2) and given their shaky defence, we predict that the visitors are going to book their place in the EFL Cup round 3.
Highlighted Player (Jamie Vardy):
Spending his early career playing no-league football, Jamie Vardy made the headlines when he joined Leicester City in a £1 million deal in 2012, but little did he know that he would go on to become a genuine Premier League star just three years later.
The experienced forward helped the Foxes gain promotion to the elite division and then score more than 20 goals as they mounted an unlikely title bid, earning worldwide acclaim as well as a place in the England squad. Vardy went on to score his first two goals for the Three Lions in March 2016 friendlies, with his back-heel goal against Germany in Berlin seeing him instantly become a fans’ favourite.
Over the years, Vardy has earned a reputation as a striker who never gives up and can be a real menace for opposition defenders, but his excellent goalscoring record and good link-up play are enough to suggest he can be described as a mix of old-style pacey forwards and modern strikers.
Highlighted Team (Tranmere):
Based in Birkenhead, Merseyside, Tranmere Rovers are a professional club that compete in the League One. Tranmere were founded back in 1884 under the name of Belmont FC, with the football arms of cricket clubs Lyndhurst Wanderers and Belmont coming together. The club recorded their first win later in 1884 as they outclassed Brunswick Rovers 4-0.
Nowadays Tranmere Rovers play their home games at Prenton Park, the venue which can hold up to 15,567 people. The Rovers wear white shirts and blue shorts in home matches, but back in the 19th century orange and red were the dominating colours on their kit.
Tranmere fans see Bolton Wanderers as the club’s main rivals, but they have built a small rivalry with Chester City and Everton as well. The Prenton Park outfit did well to make it to the League Cup final in the 1993/1994 season, but Aston Villa proved to be a big catch for them in the title game.
