Our prediction for this Europa Conference League match:
After holding Royale Union SG to a goalless draw at the weekend, Gent will look to return to winning ways when they face Molde in the Conference League round 2. Gent failed to spoil Chelsea’s party at Stamford Bridge in their opener, but they are seen as hot favourites to beat Molde in front of home fans. Fit-again key midfielder Sven Kums is widely expected to return to the starting XI, which is probably the main reason why home win should be considered. Both Andrew Hjulsager and Aime Omgba are sidelined with injuries for the home team.
The Norwegians, on the other hand, faced no difficulties in a 3-0 win over ten-man Larne, but they will have a much bigger fish to fry in Belgium. As over the years Gent have turned their Planet Group Arena into a real fortress, we do not believe that the visitors are capable of grabbing something from Thursday’s encounter. To make things even worse, all Berisha, Gulbrandsen, and Linnes are injured for the visiting side.
Highlighted Player (Sven Kums):
Belgian defender Sven Kums began his youth career at Dilbeek Sport and in 1996 he joined Anderlecht. Despite spending seven years at the club, he did not see any game action with the Belgian giants at senior level. After ending his loan spells with the likes of Lierse and Kortrijk, he signed a permanent deal with de Kerels in 2008.
The 176-cm-tall midfielder, who was born on 26 February, 1988, scored 12 goals in 116 league appearances for Kortrijk and in 2011 he moved to Netherlands, signing a contract with Heerenveen. In 2013 he returned to Belgium, joining Zulte Waregem.
In the summer of 2014 he moved to fellow Belgian outfit Gent and at the end of the 2015/2016 season he signed a loan deal with Udinese. Kums has 12 caps for Belgium U21 and it has to be noted that his father Ludo Kums is working as a coach at Anderlecht. Sven Kums is a centre midfielder, but he plays as both attacking midfielder and defensive midfielder as well.
Highlighted Team (Molde):
Based in Molde, Norway, Molde FK are one of the most successful Eliteserien clubs of the century. The Blues won their fourth domestic championship in 2019, with the team finishing the process 14 points clear of second-place Bodo.
However, Molde failed to defend their trophy the following season as Bodo looked unstoppable in the Norwegian top flight. Speaking of the Norwegian Cup, the Blues clinched their fourth silverware in 2014, with the team beating Odd 2-0 in the title game. The Eliteserien outfit play home games at Aker Stadion, the venue with the capacity of 11,249 spectators.
Thanks to a second-place finish in the 1998 Eliteserien campaign, Molde qualified for the Champions League for the first time ever. As a result, the likes of Real, Porto, and Olympiakos visited Norway. Molde are well known for their blue shirts and white shorts, with the team wearing white jerseys and blue shorts when playing on the road.
