Our prediction for this Europa League match:
All eyes will be on Turk Telekom Stadyumu when Galatasaray and Lazio go head to head in the Group E derby. Galatasaray are undefeated in the new Turkish Super Lig campaign, which is surely giving fans a reason for optimism ahead of the visit of Lazio. Brazil international Marcao returns from a domestic ban, while all Boey, Elabdellaoui, Feghouli, Turan, and Yilmaz have been struggling with injuries of late.
The Biancocelesti, on the other hand, aim to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Milan. The Serie A outfit are not regarded as good travelers, but seeing that several important footballers are sidelined with injuries for the hosts, we are tempted to put our money on draw. Maurizio Sarri should have a full squad to choose from for the Europa League opener, with both Lazzari and Muriqi pushing for a start.
Highlighted Player (Arda Turan):
Arda Turan is one of the most famous footballers in the history of Turkish football and he is widely tipped to break Rusti Recber’s record of 120 caps for Milli Takim. The attacking midfielder came to prominence at Galatasaray, while also impressing as Turkey reached the Euro 2008 semi-finals, and he immediately received offers from top European clubs to cash in on his impressive showings. However, it would take another three years before he finally decided to accept the call from Atletico Madrid, thus becoming the most expensive Turkish footballer.
Turan played a key role for Diego Simeone’s side that impressed in both Spain and Europe from 2011 onwards, lifting the league trophy with los Colchoneros and narrowly missing out on the Champions League title.
Achieving a superstar status in his country, Turan always performed well for the Turkey national team, making more than 90 appearances for Milli Takim before the age of 30, and scoring more than 15 goals.
Highlighted Team (Lazio):
Lazio Roma are an Italian football club based in Rome. Lazio were founded in 1900 and they compete in the Serie A. The Biancocelesti (The White and Sky Blues) have won two Serie A trophies (1973/1974, 1999/2000), while lifting six Coppa Italia titles.
The capital club play their home games at Stadio Olimpico and Roma are regarded as Lazio’s main rivals.
The two teams face each other in the Derby della Capitale and it is considered the fiercest inter-city derby in Italy. Lazio won UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1999, with the team beating Mallorca in the title game. The same year they managed to clinch the UEFA Super Cup trophy as they outplayed English giants Manchester United at Stade Louis II, Monaco.
The likes of Pavel Nedved, Giuseppe Favalli, Juan Sebastian Veron, Sinisa Mihajlovic, Roberto Mancini, Giuseppe Signori, Miroslav Klose and Simone Inzaghi are notable footballers who played for Lazio in the past.
