Our prediction for this Europa League match:
After surviving Panserraikos (3-2) in the Greek Super League opener, PAOK will look to give fans yet another reason to celebrate when they take on Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League playoffs, first leg. PAOK have been scoring goals for fun of late in all competitions and we are positive that they will adopt yet another attack-minded approach against Shamrock. Both Joan Sastre and Abdul Rahman are one yellow card away from suspension, while Bulgaria international Kiril Despodov is pushing for a start.
The Hoops, on the other hand, eliminated Slovenian side Celje after extra-time in round 3, but they will have a mountain to climb in Thursday’s encounter as PAOK are a real force to be reckoned with at home. To make things even more difficult for the visitors, first-choice goalkeeper Leon Pohls serves a one-game ban due to the accumulation of yellow cards.
Highlighted Player (Joan Sastre):
Joan Sastre, who started his youth career at Mallorca back in 2009, has been playing for los Bermellones ever since. Sastre made his senior debut with Mallorca in a 1-0 win over Peralada on August 20, 2017 and he scored his first ever goal for the islanders in a 1-1 draw with Badalona on December 10, 2017.
The pacey right back was born in Porreres, Spain on April 30, 1997 and it has to be noted that he has two caps with la Roja U19 team. Joan Sastre has established himself as a first-team regular at Mallorca, with the defender making 29 appearances in the Segunda Division last term.
The Spaniard was deployed in the starting line-up for the decider against Deportivo La Coruna where Mallorca emerged triumphant (3-0) and secured promotion to La Liga. Joan Sastre’s contract with los Bermellones should expire on June 30, 2023. His preferred foot is right.
Highlighted Team (PAOK):
PAOK are regarded as one of the most famous clubs in Greece. The club’s biggest rivals are Olympiakos, but they have a great rivalry with local rivals Aris as well. The Double-headed eagle play their home games at Toumba Stadion Thessaloniki and the capacity of the venue is 28 803.
PAOK are a real force to be reckoned with at home, but they often struggle when playing on the travels. The club won their first Greek Superleague title in 1976 and nine years later their clinched their second domestic trophy, finishing the season three points clear of Panathinaikos.
Speaking of the club’s European success, the Black and Whites made it to the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in the 1973/1974 season, but they were outplayed by Italian giants Milan in the two-legged tie. PAOK were founded on 20 April, 1926 and they play their home games in black and white shirts and black shorts. The club’s away colours are white.
