Our prediction for this Gold Cup match:
There will be fireworks when USA and Canada go head to head at TQL Stadium in the Gold Cup quarter-finals. The Yanks kicked off their Gold Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against Jamaica, but they faced no difficulties in back-to-back wins over Saint Kitts and Nevis (6-0) and Trinidad and Tobago (6-0). Even though the likes of Weston McKennie, Christian Pulisic, and Sergino Dest did not make the cut, we predict that the tournament hosts are going to make it to the semis.
All eyes will be on Dallas striker Jesus Ferreira, who has already netted six goals at the 2023 Gold Cup. The Canucks, on the other hand, set up a meeting with USA by beating Cuba 4-2. Anyhow, home win should be considered as Canada are not capable of matching the Yanks without the likes of Alphonso Davies, Jonathan David, and Cyle Larin. Moise Bombito should miss out with injury.
Highlighted Player (DeAndre Yedlin):
DeAndre Yedlin is a versatile 22-year-old young American footballer who is currently on loan at Sunderland from English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. His primary position is as a right-back but Yedlin can also play as a wingback or a wide midfielder. He is known for his speed on the wings and getting great crosses on the flanks.
Yedlin was part of Washington Youth Soccer’s State Olympic Development Program from 2006-09 before joining the Seattle Sounders FC youth academy in 2010. He played college soccer at the University of Akron starting in 20 games for the Zips.
Yedlin soon made his mark with Seattle Sounders and earned the record of becoming the first rookie to be named to the MLS team of the Week on his professional debut and the second rookie to make it to the All-star team. He earned his senior team debut in 2014 and has 33 caps to his name.
Highlighted Team (Canada):
Canada national football team played their first official match back in 1924 when they suffered a 3-2 loss to Australia in Brisbane. The following year the two teams faced each other one in Adelaide, with the Canadians managing to get their revenge on the Socceroos. The Canucks had several unsuccessful attempts to make it to the World Cup finals, but in 1986 they finally booked their place at the showpiece tournament.
Canada faced France in their opener, with Jean-Pierre Papin scoring the winner for les Tricolores in the dying minutes of the match. The Canadians were beaten by Hungary and USSR in the next two group games as well and, as a result, they failed to advance to the knockout stages.
Speaking of the team’s trophies, the Canucks won the CONCACAF Gold cup on two occasions (1985, 2000), with the team beating Honduras and Colombia respectively in the title games. Canada national football team play their home games at BMO Field and the capacity of the venue is 30,000.
