Our prediction for this Gold Cup match:
All eyes will be on Snapdragon Stadium when USA and Panama face each other in the Gold Cup semis. The Yanks survived Canada in the quarter-finals and they are now seen as hot favourites to make it to the final of the CONCACAF championship. Even though all Christian Pulisic, Sergino Dest, and Weston McKennie have been omitted, home win should be considered as USA have been producing fine displays at the tournament in their homeland.
Los Canaleros, on the other hand, booked their place in the semifinal by rolling over Qatar 4-0. Considering that Panama have been scoring goals for fun at the 2023 Gold Cup, we are tempted to put our money on over 2.5 goals. In their last meeting in a competitive match USA outclassed Panama 5-1. A man to watch in the away side will be Ismael Diaz, who scored a hat-trick in the quarter-finals.
Highlighted Player (DeAndre Yedlin):
DeAndre Yedlin is a versatile 22-year-old young American footballer who is currently on loan at Sunderland from English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. His primary position is as a right-back but Yedlin can also play as a wingback or a wide midfielder. He is known for his speed on the wings and getting great crosses on the flanks.
Yedlin was part of Washington Youth Soccer’s State Olympic Development Program from 2006-09 before joining the Seattle Sounders FC youth academy in 2010. He played college soccer at the University of Akron starting in 20 games for the Zips.
Yedlin soon made his mark with Seattle Sounders and earned the record of becoming the first rookie to be named to the MLS team of the Week on his professional debut and the second rookie to make it to the All-star team. He earned his senior team debut in 2014 and has 33 caps to his name.
Highlighted Team (Panama):
Norway are a Nordic side that participated three times at the FIFA World Cup finals (1938, 1994 and 1998). The Norwegians were producing fine performances at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, with the team setting up a meeting with Italy in the last 16 of the showpiece tournament thanks to a 2-1 win over Brazil in their last group match.
However, the Azzurri proved to be a big catch for Norway and thanks to Bobo Vieri’s goal the Italians made it to the quarter-finals. Norway only once qualified for the European Championship finals, with the team suffering elimination in the group stages of the 2000 tournament in Belgium and Netherlands. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the most famous Norwegian player and it is well known that he helped Manchester United beat Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final.
The “Baby-faced” striker scored the winner for the Red Devils in the dying seconds of the match. Norway play their home games at Ullevaal Stadion, which was opened in September, 1926. The capacity of the venue is 28.000.
