Our prediction for this match:
Slovenia will be aiming to build on a splendid 2-0 win over star-studded Portugal when they take on Armenia in yet another warm-up game. The Slovenians aim to prepare in the best way possible for the EURO 2024 opener against Denmark and they are seen as hot favourites to beat Armenia in Ljubljana. Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is the most notable player in Matjaz Kek’s squad, while the opposition back-line should have Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko at bay.
The Armenians, meanwhile, are on a three-game losing run in all competitions. As Oleksandr Petrakov is likely to mix the squad against Slovenia, anything but a routine home win would be a big surprise. It has to be noted that the two sides meet for the first time on the international stage. Captain Varazdan Haroyan is widely expected to make his 82nd cap for the Armenia national team on Tuesday.
Highlighted Player (Miha Zajc):
Born in Sempeter pri Gorici, Slovenia, Miha Zajc started his career in Interblock, recording only five appearances before moving to NK Olimpia on a loan deal. In season 2013/14, the attacking midfielder made 13 appearances in the Slovenian Prva Liga, netting 5 goas in the process.
After yet another loan deal, now with Celje, Miha Zajc moved to NK Olimpia on a permanent deal. The player can perform as an attacking midfielder and as a central midfielder. During his 81 appearances for NK Olimpia, Zajc scored 20 goals and recorded 12 assists, which was good enough for the Empoli officials to sign the 24-year-old for about €1.7 million.
In 2017/18, Zajc helped Empoli win Serie B with 8 goals and 14 assists. Thanks to his good performances, he made his debut for Slovenia national team in March 2016 and has played in 5 games so far, with one goal on his tally.
Highlighted Team (Armenia):
Armenia footballers played for Soviet Union national football team until 1991, when the country declared independence. The Football Federation of Armenia was founded the following year and they quickly established relations with both FIFA (1992) and UEFA (1993).
Despite the fact that Manchester United ace Henrikh Mkhitaryan plays for the Armenia national football team, the Havakakan have yet to qualify for the finals of a major tournament. Mkhitaryan is undisputedly the team’s most famous footballer, but we should mention former Ajax striker Edgar Manucharyan as well, who is in the twighlight of his career. Armenia played their first international game against Moldova in October, 1992 and it has to be noted that they played out a goalless draw with the former Soviet republic.
The Armenians have slim chances of qualifying for the FIFA World cup 2018 finals, but they did well to beat Montenegro in the process. Armenia footballers wear red shirts and red shorts when playing at home ground (Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium), while the colour of their away kits is white.
