Our prediction for this match:
Buoyed by a 2-1 win over Armenia, Slovenia will look to give fans yet another reason to celebrate when they take on Bulgaria on Saturday afternoon. The Slovenians are eager to impress in their last warm-up game before EURO 2024 opener and there is every chance boss Matjaz Kek is going to field the best possible side this time out. First-choice goalkeeper Jan Oblak returns to the starting XI as well as Leipzig ace Benjamin Sesko, with both Vid Belec and Zan Vipotnik dropping to the bench.
Ilian Iliev’s troops, on the other hand, did well to hold Romania to a goalless draw in Bucharest, but it has to be noted that Dennis Man failed to convert a penalty for the Tricolori. Anyhow, Slovenia are more of a team than Bulgaria and we predict that the hosts are going to showcase their worth on the field. Both Radoslav Kirilov and Ilian Iliev are pushing for a start, speaking of the visiting team.
Highlighted Player (Miha Zajc):
Born in Sempeter pri Gorici, Slovenia, Miha Zajc started his career in Interblock, recording only five appearances before moving to NK Olimpia on a loan deal. In season 2013/14, the attacking midfielder made 13 appearances in the Slovenian Prva Liga, netting 5 goas in the process.
After yet another loan deal, now with Celje, Miha Zajc moved to NK Olimpia on a permanent deal. The player can perform as an attacking midfielder and as a central midfielder. During his 81 appearances for NK Olimpia, Zajc scored 20 goals and recorded 12 assists, which was good enough for the Empoli officials to sign the 24-year-old for about €1.7 million.
In 2017/18, Zajc helped Empoli win Serie B with 8 goals and 14 assists. Thanks to his good performances, he made his debut for Slovenia national team in March 2016 and has played in 5 games so far, with one goal on his tally.
Highlighted Team (Bulgaria):
Bulgaria national football team are well known for their “Golden generation” of players led by Hristo Stoichkov. The Bulgarian football legend was producing thrilling performances for the national team at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in USA and he helped the Lions make it to the semi-finals of the tournament.
The likes of Trifon Ivanov, Krasimir Balakov and Yordan Letchkov enjoyed a very successful tournament as well and, no doubt, they recorded a historical result at the 1994 FIFA World Cup. The Bulgarians defeated Germany in the quarter-finals, but Italy proved to be a big catch for Dimitar Penev’s team. Bulgaria eventually suffered a heavy loss to Sweden in the third-place playoffs. Nowadays, Bulgaria struggle in qualifiers for major tournaments and it has to be noted that they have not participated at the finals since 1994.
Vasil Levski National Stadium is considered Bulgaria’s home ground and the capacity of the stadium is 43.320. Bulgaria wear white shirts, green shorts and white socks when playing at home, whilst green and red are their second colours.
