Our prediction for this match:
Spain and Andorra square off against each other at Estadio Nuevo Vivero in a David-vs-Goliath clash. La Roja played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Brazil in March, but they are seen as hot favourites to beat their neighbours in Badajoz. The likes of Oihan Sancet, Alejandro Balde, and Gavi have been left out with injuries, while the likes of Marco Asensio, Lucas Vazquez, and Pau Torres have been omitted. Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata is widely expected to lead the line for the hosts.
Andorra, on the other hand, served as a cannon fodder for their rivals in the European Championship qualifiers. As previously mentioned, David faces Goliath in Badajoz and anything but a routine home win would be a big surprise. In their last meeting in a friendly Spain crushed Andorra 4-0, which goes in favour of our prediction. Captain Marc Pujol is the most notable player in Koldo Alvarez’s team.
Highlighted Player (Koke):
Jorge Resurreccion Merodio “Koke” has enjoyed a meteoric rise after coming through the youth ranks at Atletico Madrid, quickly becoming an important player for both club and country. Possessing impressive technical skills and very mature for his age, the highly rated midfielder is capable of covering just about any position in the middle of the park and he has been used as a central midfielder, left winger and right winger by both Diego Simeone and Vicente Del Bosque.
Koke has been a key member of one of the best generations in the history of Atletico Madrid, winning the 2013/2014 La Liga trophy and reaching the Champions League final the same year. Widely regarded as one of Europe’s best midfielders, it is only a matter of time before Koke will join an absolute top club and he is believed to be a primary target for La Liga rivals Barcelona.
While playing alongside Xavi Hernandez at the 2014 World Cup, Koke is believed to be a worthy successor of the former Catalans star in the national team now that he has retired, and with 20 Spain caps to his name, his international career is just starting.
Highlighted Team (Andorra):
Andorra national football team played their first official game in 1996, with the team suffering a 6-1 loss to Estonia. The Tricolours have been participating in both European Championship qualifiers and World Cup qualifiers since 2000, but they have yet to make it to the finals of the major tournament.
Andorra have established themselves as a cannon fodder for their rivals, but it has to be noted that they did well to beat Macedonia in the 2006 World Cup qualifier (1-0). The Andorrans play their home games at Estadio Nacional in Andorra la Vella and you should bear in mind that they suffered their biggest defeat in an official match on June 4, 2005 when they were outclassed by Czech Republic in Liberec.
Speaking of their biggest win, the minnows recorded a 2-0 victory over Belarus in a friendly game in Aixovall. The likes of Ildefons Lima and Oscar Sonejee are the most notable footballers who represented Andorra on the international stage.
