Our prediction for this League 1 match:
AFC Wimbledon and Charlton Athletic face each other at Plough Lane in what is expected to be an exciting League One game. The Dons played out a 1-1 draw with Wigan on Tuesday evening, with the team extending their winless run to six matches. AFC Wimbledon have not recorded a win in the League One since February 23, and it is no wonder they are seen as underdogs in Saturday’s clash.
The Red Robins, on the other hand, aim to build on a 3-2 win over Bristol Rovers which helped them climb to the playoffs berth. Northern Ireland international Conor Washington, who scored four goals in total in the previous three league fixtures, is likely to prove a handful for the opposition defenders. Anyhow, Charlton are more of a team than AFC Wimbledon, and we predict that the favourites are going to prove their worth on the field.
Highlighted Player (Nikola Tzanev):
Nikola Tzanev is a New Zealand goalkeeper who started his youth career at Crystal Palace. Tzanev then moved to Brentford and he continued wearing the red and white shirt at senior level. After ending his loan spell with Lewes, the 195-cm-tall shoot-stopper moved to AFC Wimbledon in 2017.
During the 2018/2019 campaign he played for Potters Bar Town as a loan player, but at the end of the season he returned to AFC Wimbledon. He made his League One debut with the Dons on August 3, 2019 in a 2-1 loss to Rotherham United. Speaking of his international career, Nik Tzanev made his New Zealand debut in a 1-0 win over Chinese Taipei on June 5, 2018.
The Dons goalkeeper has 3 caps for the New Zealand U20 team as well. Nikola Tzanev was born in Wellington on December 23, 1996 and his preferred foot is right.
Highlighted Team (Charlton):
Charlton Athletic are yet another capital club that will compete in the 2019/2020 Championship season. Founded back in 1905, the Red Robins welcome their opponents at the Valley, the stadium which can hold up to 28,111 spectators. Charlton Athletic wear red shirts and white shorts when playing on home soil, whereas black is the dominant colour of their away kit.
Winning of the 1946/1947 FA Cup trophy is considered the club’s biggest success. The Red Robins defeated Burnley 1-0 in the title game, with Chris Duffy scoring the winner for Jimmy Seed’s charges in extra-time.
Fellow capital clubs Crystal Palace and Millwall are regarded as Charlton’s fiercest rivals, whilst Samuel Bartram, who made 579 appearances for the club is one of the most famous footballers who played for the Valley outfit. The club based in London will compete in the English second tier in the 2019/2020 season following a three-year absence.
