Our prediction for this League 1 match:
Buoyed by a 3-0 win over Accrington, Wigan Athletic will look to give fans yet another reason for celebration when they take on Lincoln City at LNER Stadium. The Latics are leading the chase for automatic promotion, but head coach Leam Richardson must warn his men against complacency. Both Thelo Aasgaard and Scott Smith remain in the recovery room, while Jordan Cousins is pushing for a recall after overcoming his injury.
The Imps, on the other hand, will almost certainly compete in League One for yet another season. Since Wigan want this win more than Lincoln, we do not believe that the hosts are capable of grabbing something from the match. Both Lewis Montsma and Joshua Griffiths remain on the sidelines with injuries for the visiting side. A man to watch in the away team will be Will Keane, who scored his 20th goal of the season in midweek.
Highlighted Player (Liam Bridcutt ):
Liam Robert Bridcutt is a professional footballer who plays for Lincoln City as a defensive midfielder. Born in Reading, England on May 8, 1989, Bridcutt is a product of the Chelsea football academy, but he did not see any game action for the Blues at senior level. After ending his loan spells with Yeovil Town, Watford, and Stockport County, the 175-cm footballer signed a five-month contract with Brighton where he established himself as a first-team regular.
After making 132 appearances in the league for the Seagulls, Liam Bridcutt moved to Sunderland in the winter of 2014. He played for the likes of Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Bolton Wanderers as well before joining Lincoln City in January, 2020.
His main position is defensive midfield, but he is used as a central midfielder as well. The Lincoln City player has a dual citizenship (Scotland/England), and it has to be noted that he has two caps with the Scotland national team.
Highlighted Team (Wigan):
Wigan Athletic are one of the winners of the English FA Cup. The Latics won the prestigious trophy in 2013, with the team upsetting Manchester City in the title game. This is considered the club’s biggest success, but it has to be noted that Wigan played in the UEFA Europa League in the 2013/2014 season.
Wigan have been playing their home games at the DW Stadium since 1999 and they had played at Springfield Park in the past. Chorley are considered Wigan’s fierce rivals, but the two teams last met in 1971, when they competed in the Northern Premier League. The likes of Preston North End, Bury, Oldham Athletic, Burnley and Blackburn Rovers are regarded as Wigan Athletic’s rivals as well.
The club was founded in 1932 and they competed in the English Premier League from 2005 to 2013. The colour of Wigan’s home kit is blue and white (stripes).
